Color Me Orange
Turns out that Code Orange alert was based partly on "a claim made by a captured al Qaeda member that Washington, New York or Florida would be hit by a 'dirty bomb' sometime this week," ABC News reports. A "cell operating in either Virginia or Detroit had developed a way to slip past airport scanners with dirty bombs encased in shoes, suitcases, or laptops," the detainee had explained, prompting the government to step up security and scare the bejeezus out of everyone. Then they got around to polygraphing the prisoner, and the whole tale turned out to be a lie. Now the CIA and the FBI are blaming each other for the screwup.
This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Isn't it possible that Al Qaeda operatives are, you know, under orders to tell phony stories like this if they get captured? It's quite a ju-jitsu move, after all, to get your enemy to spread your disinformation for you. And I'm sure Osama, if he's alive, would love the sight of U.S. police scrambling to D.C., New York, Florida, Virginia, and Michigan, all in search of a phantom conspiracy.

That, or the prisoners are on the payroll of Big Media. "Pssst, Abdul - how'ja like to get back at the Great Satan *and* make a bundle?!"
It certainly doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize the chaos that a simple threat can create these days. After Columbine, school kids across the country learned that they can cause a panic just by calling in a bomb threat or dropping a suggestive note on the floor.
Wolf! Wolf! Oh, never mind...
Yep...sounds like our boys are playing right into the hands of Osama's gang...
Does this mean I have to trust polygraph results?
Heh heh. Score a point for Thomas.
I wonder if prisoners who give up juicy information get better treatment...
If it happens, the government knew; if it doesn't happen, they are trying to scare us. Kind of stupid, no?
Why aren't people reading newspapers anymore?
Did anyone read the ABC News article? I would but I'd have to search for it directly -- Jesse gave us a bum link.
Hey guys, there's a bunch of people around the world on the street this weekend. The chickenhawks are praying that we'll still go in.
This is getting verrry interesting.

Jailhouse snitches sure do get better treatment if they help the Jackboots get ahold (through "forfeiture" robbery) of a piece of land or other lucrative property they want.
Sorry about that, Edward. The link is fixed now.
