Salon's Last Gasp, Take 26?
Salon is going all-subscription. Or? "The company is expected to announce this week that it will require all readers to either buy a subscription for full access to stories or agree to click through several screens of advertising to gain limited access," reports the Los Angeles Times.
Actually, that sounds much like the status quo, but the Times characterizes it as "dramatically chang[ing] its business model." Best I can tell, the difference is that soon, instead of having most of the non-premium content laced with click-through ads, all the non-premium content will be.
The article also alleges that "Salon is perhaps the last great independent experiment in online journalism." No offense to Salon, which did some good stuff back when it had money to spend, but that kind of eulogizing is just silly.

Salon is "the last great independent experiment in online journalism"? Apparently the LA Times writer forgot about WorldNetDaily. Imagine that.
