Berkeley Barbs
Is this getting any national attention? The new mayor of Berkeley has pled guilty to stealing and throwing away 100 copies of the Daily Californian after the paper endorsed his opponent in the election. Requisite ironic angle: The incident took place at the birthplace of the "Free-Speech Movement." It was really a crime of passion though: "It was like political road rage," Mayor Tom Bates says. "After putting my whole heart and soul into campaigning on campus, to have the Daily Cal come out for all of my running mates but not me, that was the straw that pushed me emotionally over the edge."
