Ron Paul Delegates Vow Floor Fight at RNC
A few hundred delegates sat in the audience as RNC Chairman Reince Priebus called the 2012 Republican National Convention to order Monday and minutes later called it into recess due to concerns about Hurricane Isaac. A large portion of those delegates did not support presumed nominee Mitt Romney but Congressman Ron Paul.
Reason TV was on the scene to talk with Paul-supporting delegates, who represented a disproportionate number in attendance because of their willingness to brave the weather and show up even though party officials assured everyone no official business would occur Monday. Many expressed a willingness to fight for their ideas, and their candidate, on the convention floor in the coming week, despite rule changes that stripped ten Paul delegates from Maine of their seats.
"These conventions are not supposed to be coronations. They are supposed to be fights on the floor," says one Maine alternate delegate.
Approximately 3 minutes.

Rush 2112!

In fact they are coronations you naive fool. Also excuses for Nick Gillespie to interview big boobed Sarah Palin impersonators.
-
Yep. There was a time when these conventions were often legitimate debates and fights on the floor, and maybe it would be better if they still worked that way, but those days ended quite a while ago. They are nothing but stage-managed coronations now, and it's not likely to go back to how it was.

Thanks to the real or mythical (who can ever know?) "convention bump," I imagine you're right. All energy must be focused in pushing one person forward.

I bet on her blog comments right now someone is pointing out that the only reason she's at the convention is so she can talk to Nick Gillespie.
-
They certainly are coronations, but it's fair to raise the issue that they aren't supposed to be coronations.
Certainly the Republicans (and the Democrats when their turn comes) will loudly insist that the conventions are not coronations, especially if anyone questions the enormous public expense involved. And the "journalists" sure as hell want everybody to take the conventions seriously since they have a money stake in it.

big boobed Sarah Palin impersonators.
Oh, Tim, Lisa Ann is soooo much more than a Palin impersonator.
-
I'm glad somebody around here knows who she is. I was getting worried.
-
I hope she invests wisely now, because in a few years those things are going to look like two tube socks with tennis balls in the ends.
-
Yeah. She's amazing.
