Reason President Obama says the United States will be "relentless" in its pursuit of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), while FBI Director James Comey called ISIL a bunch of "savages" in response to the posting of a video showing the beheading of U.S. photojournalist James Foley, who the U.S. apparently tried unsuccessfully to rescue along with other American hostages in Syria several months ago. Meanwhile Germany announced it would arm Kurdish troops and "set aside taboos" in regards to military operations in Iraq.
