Republican National Convention pushed back until Tuesday

Tampa - The threat of Tropical Storm Isaac has forced Republicans to all but cancel the first day of the their convention. From GOP Chairman Reince Priebus:

Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th, exact time to follow.

Our first priority is ensuring the safety of delegates, alternates, guests, members of the media attending the Republican National Convention, and citizens of the Tampa Bay area. RNC Convention officials and the Romney campaign are working closely with state, local and federal officials, as well as the Secret Service, to monitor Tropical Storm Isaac and preserve Florida’s emergency management resources. Officials have predicted participants may encounter severe transportation difficulties due to sustained wind and rain.

The Republican National Convention will take place and officially nominate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, and the Party has other necessary business it must address. We also are remaining in constant contact with state and federal officials and may make additional schedule alterations as needed.

Tropical Storm Isaac, scheduled to make landfall Florida on Sunday, is currently battering Cuba.

    OT: are the claims of record numbers of deportations bunk? http://dailycaller.com/2012/08.....n-numbers/

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Obama has record deportations of illegal entrants into the US, if that is your question.

    Daily Caller is a wingnut site though - don't trust.

  • WWNGD?||

    Sadly Tucker Carlson (the owner and editor) claims to be a libertarian yet he let it go in that direction.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Tucker is just a little piss-spray conservative. It is all about abortion and denying people their right to privacy to him.

  • Mint Berry Crunch||

    It is all about abortion

    It sure is!

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    I don't click on a link from some GOP Aborto-Freak.

    Never will either. If you hate freedom then just fuck you.

  • Mint Berry Crunch||

    It goes to an Obama re-election ad.

    I bet you can guess all the compelling reasons it gives for granting the Lightworker a second term!

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    So what? I know the facts.

    Go to Free Republic if you want false pablum regurgitated.

  • WWNGD?||

    "I know the facts"

    Because all your sources are better than everyone else's because you read the correct blogs and listen to the informed people so you are more enlightened and intelligent and stuff.

  • Brutus||

    Wow, amazing, I had no idea that the Republicans had just recently adopted a pro-life plank to their platform. It's amazing what you can learn from an Obama campaign ad.

    Like at least one of these gals has been a Democrat for well over six years.

  • Virginian||

    Oh of course. I bet they all are loyal Democrats.

    One of the interesting things is the Democrats love finding supposed conservatives who somehow interpret conservatism to mean full throated support for the Democratic Party. See Andrew Sullivan for an example, or our own shriek. It's quite curious. Especially fun is when they argue a dead Republican would have totally supported the current Democrats. Right now they're trying to argue Reagan would have loved Obama or something.

    This stupid girl on my Facebook posted a picture of a pro-Romney woman with the caption "Women for Rommney: Because We Hate Ourselves." She thought this was hilarious and insightful.

    I really can't wait for this election to be over.

    republican party is more tolerante of pro-choicers than dems are of pro-lifers.

    years back, for example, when they had ahnold as key speaker at convention, etc.

    you simply don't see pro-life dems being given similar speaking positions and representation at dem conventions

  • Brutus||

    You don't see too many pro-life Dems anymore, period, Dunphy. They've all been run out of the Party as heretics that deny the One True Sacrament: Abortion.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Bob Casey, PA Senator.

    There are many others.

  • Brutus||

    Bob Casey, PA Senator.

    The fact that they can be named proves my point, no? And wasn't Casey told he couldn't address the National Convention because he's anti-abortion? Why yes, yes he was:

    http://www.themediareport.com/.....onvention/

    Don't cross the Forces of Tolerance, baby.

  • ||

    yea, thanks for showing him my point

    i didn't say there were not pro-life dems

    i said they are not given the respect and power positions w/in the dem party (for example, being keynote speaker) that repubs are willing to give pro-choice repubs.

    it's clearly a different standard

    pro-life dems are like little bastard stepchildren to the dems

    the repub party, at least by this metric , is a bigger tent

  • ||

    i said they are not given the respect and power positions w/in the dem party (for example, being keynote speaker) that repubs are willing to give pro-choice repubs.

    It would be political suicide for Dems to show tolerance to Pro-lifers. Without that 3 to 5 point spread with women voters they would be a permanent minority party.

    Republicans on the other hand can gain votes by being tolerant of different views on abortion.

    Both are cynical choices and not some grand platform of tolerance/intolerance.

  • ||

    "spread with women voters"?

    i saw what you did there

  • WWNGD?||

    A pro-life democrat, Randall Terry was running against Obama this year. Pro-life dems are out there, and there are many strong "religious left". They are kept quiet and their belief in the magical god of liberalism over rides their belief in the magical god of earth.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    republican party is more tolerante of pro-choicers than dems are of pro-lifers.

    And the irony there is that the rabid pro-life position is a much better fit with the democrats socialism than it is with the Rs small government posture.

  • Brutus||

    And the irony there is that the rabid pro-life position is a much better fit with the democrats socialism than it is with the Rs small government posture.

    Abortion was rife in the USSR, and is a big policy tool in China.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    Abortion was rife in the USSR, and is a big policy tool in China.

    Yes I realize that.

    But the American version is obsessed with government control of personal decisions. And abortion ban would be a natural fit with the same people that ban smoking, what kinds of food you can eat, the cars you can drive, the type of housing you should live in, the way you can earn a living etc. etc.

    There are elements on the right that advocate some government control over liberty, mostly in the religious community, but they are much more prevalent on the left.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    Abortion was rife in the USSR, and is a big policy tool in China

    And one other point.

    Both of those countries have cultures that devalue human life dating to the Mongol conquests, if not before. Infanticide was common in both, though much more so in China, before the communists seized power.

  • ||

    What about freedom for the child Shriek? Why do you hate the NAP?

  • ||

    What's fucking fresh about this comment is we all will argue back and forth on the internet about abortion because it's an interesting topic to discuss, but it doesn't mean shit to us in the real world or how we will vote. And shrike will foam at the mouth like a rabid dog about "right to privacy", calling people aborto-freaks, like we are trying to force him to keep the devilspawn satan shoved up his asshole.

    And didn't you promise not to post here anymore asshole?

  • VG Zaytsev||

    Why are post menopausal women obsessed with abortion?

  • ||

    Why are post menopausal women obsessed with abortion?

    They have granddaughters and daughters and nieces and shit.

    Plus feminism is sold as a solidarity thing based on gender.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    They have granddaughters and daughters and nieces

    And they wish those family member had been aborted?

  • VG Zaytsev||

    Why are post menopausal women obsessed with abortion?

  • Yuno Hoo||

    Because after menopause, women are more like men?

  • Brutus||

    Obama is counting the number of illegals that are fleeing America due to his economy-strangling policies.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    2008, like 1929, is a GOP depression. Hoover and Dumbya are second fiddle to FDR and Obama respectively.

    I know, you are GOP all the way. But Bush is the worst POTUS since Buchanan, dipshit.

  • Brutus||

    I seem to recall this swarthy fella a few years ago promising to put it all right. He even said that, if we did what he said, we'd be under 6% unmployment right now.

    Well, we did. So how is that working out, Shriek?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Bobby 'Piysush' Jingal? That swarthy Indian fellow in the GOP ad?

  • Brutus||

    No, this one was surrounded by unicorns and Greek columns. Had a fancy report with lotsa cipherin' 'n' stuff by them smart folks from up north. You mighta heard of 'em: Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein?

    i wonder if waffle vodka would go well with my EPIC BRAISED SHORT RIBS i am currently eating.

    yup, getting paid to suck the govt. teat while eating succulent braised short ribs.

    life is gooood

  • ||

    (JUST FOR THE RECORD...) i cannot drink vodka on duty...

  • Brutus||

    I'm not squealin', Dunph. And anyway, the ribs absolve you of your sins. I've had a taste for some smoked babybacks for a while...gotta run to Sam's to get a pack.

  • ||

    buying a side (full quarter actually) of beef from an enumclaw farm was a great decision

    grass fed (more nutritious and tastes better), killed humanely, allowed to free range (more compassionate life), and it's really helped me improve my cooking game

    before this, i'd mostly buy the expensive steaks, which a monkey could cook well

    but now that i've got this wide variety of cuts to deal with, i've learned a lot more about how to cook - making the cheap cuts into something good

    that moroccan beef dish i made with chuck steak, for example

  • Brutus||

    I did some beef short ribs a while ago, kinda like you said. I dusted them with rub, smoked them for about three hours and then put them in foil with a braising liquid for about another two. They just fell apart.

    If we could post pics, I'd show 'em to you (I post on the Big Green Egg forum and we all take pics of our cooks...it's a cult thing)

  • ||

    the smoking sounds interesting.

    mine was somewhat old skool

    i set the ribs overnight in thyme and pepper.

    i did the quick brown in the pan to get the maillard reaction going (par for the course for any stew or braise), then set the ribs aside to rest and worked on my braising liquid - just aromatics, soy, worcestire, red wine, a little dark ale, some garlic, ginger, bay leaves, etc.

    then just did the slow oven braise. and the nice thing also was just a dutch oven for the whole process and cutting board. i hate when you make a dish and then have like a trillion dirty pots, etc. to deal with.

    i'm not 100% in love with the texture on this one. they are not FULL ON fall off the bone, but they are close

    but the flavor is just great. love sopping the gravy with the bread.

  • Brutus||

    That sounds great, D. Do you toss in any veggies to round out the meal? This sounds a lot like my beef stew, minus the carrots, turnips, parsnips, etc.

  • ||

    the only veggies were the aromatics - celery, carrot and onion. but would have been awesome with potatoes or parsnips

  • obijuan||

    Does this allow Paul people to make Paul win?

    Now off to abhisheka hour at the local pub.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    After FL elected the freedom hating Medicare-stealing Rick Scott they deserve to get drounced by a Cat-5.

    Scott is a fucking lying POS who should face a recall.

  • Brutus||

    Which freedoms does Scott hate most, Shriek? Freedom to exercise religion? Say something about politics? The freedom to choose one's own health insurance (or none at all)?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Scott is a goddamn Aborto-Freak like your pals Todd Akin and Paul Ryan.

    I would add Romney but he has no real principals.

  • Brutus||

    And really, what's more important to the cause of liberty than a million-plus babies vacuumed from existence every year? Thank Gaia the Founders put that in the BoR.

    It seems to be the one choice the Democrat Party is comfortable letting us make. Schools, health insurance, hiring, what to drink, eat, smoke...no, those, not so much.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Schools, health insurance, hiring, what to drink, eat, smoke...no, those, not so much.

    Bullshit. Those are all local or state laws (except for the private insurance mandate just found Constitutional).

  • Brutus||

    What was found Consitutional was a tax.

    But even if it's Constitutional, does it promote freedom to mandate or restrict one's choice of plan?

    What about the Dept. of Education, a creation of the "libertarian" Jimmy Carter? Is that not federal? And I could swear all of those civil rights laws second-guessing employers, private clubs, etc. were federal, too.

    And isn't it Democrats still standing at the door, locally and state-wide, thwarting choice?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Carter did not create the Dept of Education. He merely separated it from HEW (Health, Education, and Welfare.

    He made it easier to kill by isolating it. But Reagan and Dumbya expanded it instead.

  • Cytotoxic||

    In other words he created it.

    He made it easier to kill by isolating it.

    More lies from the resident psycho. Really, I just asked a simple question what did I do to trigger another psychotic break from Shreek?

  • Brutus||

    He created it, Shriek. It was a sleepy little agency inside of HEW before Carter, who cage the NEA and the AFT their own little cabinet department to pull wires in.

    And if you think it's easier to kill off a cabinet-level Department than a few programs inside a larger Department, you're dreaming or drunk.

    Fuck them all.

  • Brutus||

    Moral, upstanding, lawful, defender of life and liberty and a good, Christian man.
