This week Newt Gingrich condemned the Medicare reform plan endorsed by all but four House Republicans, calling it a "radical change" that amounts to "right-wing social engineering." Senior Editor Jacob Sullum says Gingrich is so eager to shed his image as a hardhearted ideologue bent on tearing up the social safety net that he is willing to endanger reform by bad-mouthing a plan very similar to his own.
