Oberleutnant Beck ist Arguing With Ze Idiots!

Barnes & Noble has posted the cover of Glenn Beck's forthcoming book, Arguing With Idiots: How to Stop Small Minds and Big Government, which appears to show the weepy cable yapper striking his best Werner Klemperer pose and, for some unexplained reason, dressed in an East German military uniform.

    Beck, by his own doing, is flaming out faster than Obama.

  • ||

    Worst cover ever...

  • ||

    There's a story on Yahoo news about him losing several sponsors for calling Obama a racist.

  • ||

    Yes; Freedom of speech is another right thrown out the window.

  • jbone||

    JVegas,

    Why is it, that when a PRIVATELY OWNED company makes the decision to drop sponsorship, you think Freedom of Speech is being taken away?

    If that were actually happening, Glenn would have been fined by the government, or arrested, or imprisoned, or tortured, or killed.

    NOT ONE of those things have happened. A bunch of companies felt that Glenn's douchebaggery would be considered offensive by many viewers, and if these consumers saw their companies sponsoring this piece of crap show, the people might be turned off, and it would be bad for business.

    A company can't be forced to sponsor Glenn Beck, unless you can find a way to make Boy Scouts of America allow gay and atheist members into their organization.

    Welcome to free-market capitalism. The market has spoken.

  • roo||

    maybe napolitano can fill his timeslot once he "decides to pursue alternate career opportunities"

  • ||

    here's a story on Yahoo news about him losing several sponsors for calling Obama a racist.

    Yeah - but his viewer ratings are higher than ever.

  • ||

    That's funny, since the phrase I've always used to describe Beck is "an idiot stumbling in the right direction". For example, in a recent interview with Rand Paul he quite explicitly said that he used to be wrong for supporting an interventionist foreign policy, and is certainly moving down the track from a statist-conservative to a more libertarian worldview. Still, his idiocy may more harmful to the cause of liberty than his popularity is helpful to it. A useful idiot for the other side, so to speak.

  • Jeff P||

    Ve have vays of making you listen to regurgitated cliches...

  • PC||

    Might want to do some fact checking on those sponsors, at least a couple that I know of just got block advertising on Fox to be played whenever and they asked that their spots not be put on during Beck. Not quite the same since they never explicitly sponsored him. And as previously mentioned his ratings will make it easy for him to find other sponsors.

    Kind of reminds me (very very loosely) of the Sex Pistols getting canned by EMI, big deal, there's an unlimited supply.

  • ||

    And his new sponsors are ...

  • EJM||

    There's a story on Yahoo news about him losing several sponsors for calling Obama a racist.

    On a related note, there have been rumors/claims/suggestions that his vacation last week may have not been voluntary.

  • ||

    You know what's strange? I recognized that as an East German uniform before I saw the words (I was scrolling up from an earlier post). How did I know that?

  • ||

    No one answer ProL! It was hard enough suppressing his memories of being a GDR border guard the first time.

  • ||

    If Limbaugh can be a dope fiend and keep his audience, there is nothing for which a wing-nut can't be forgiven short of having compassion for non-whites or non-Christians.

  • ||

    More evidence... Liberals cannot make an argument w/o resorting to name-calling: here's two examples in one sentence.

  • ||

    Agree with the stumbling in the right direction comment. He's actually the best of the mainstream news commentators on cable TV, and his ratings have soared since the move to Fox. Michael disses the outfit selection, but melding an iconic fictional Nazi pose with East German fashion makes perfect sense from an Austian/Libertarian standpoint. It's that what "The Road to Serfdom" is all about?

  • ||

    PC, did he lose those sponsors? Did they stop their products from being advertised during his show? Nothing wrong with my facts you dumbass.

  • dave b.||

    Yeah - but his viewer ratings are higher than ever.

    Viewer ratings that are unable to be monetized are worthless.

  • KT||

    Let me guess, he advocates voting for Republicans, who never, ever ever ever increase the size of government.

  • ||

    I was thinking that maybe I was in one of those sleeper cells, like River Phoenix. That, or I watched some movie with an East German setting, like Gotcha. Whichever is more likely.

  • ||

    Pro Lib, Top Secret ?

  • ||

    So if he's Lord Haw-haw, then who is Tokyo Rose??

  • ||

    A useful idiot for the other side, so to speak.

    I don't know, Paul Krugman is an idiot and makes countless mistakes and bone headed remarks....yet he does not seem to hurt his side very much.

  • ||

    If nobody's beaten me to it -
    Yo, fuck Glenn Beck.

  • ||

    Top Secret would be more likely, though the East Germans kept morphing into Nazis.

  • ||

    Beck's problem is that he is an entertainer. His ability to hold a job is in his show bringing in money. He loses several sponsors for calling the president a racist and his new book has him looking like a (omg)nazi at a time when the country is hyper-sensitive to such silliness. I say he is on the way out the door.

  • Rich||

    I recognized that as an East German uniform before I saw the words (I was scrolling up from an earlier post). How did I know that?

    Fascist! ;-)

  • ||

    Communism, fascism, what's the difference?

  • PC||

    "I don't know, Paul Krugman is an idiot and makes countless mistakes and bone headed remarks....yet he does not seem to hurt his side very much."

    Well that's because he is a Nobel Prize winning idiot.

  • ||

    Let me guess, he advocates voting for Republicans, who never, ever ever ever increase the size of government.

    I have only seen him a couple of times but each time i saw him take strides in pointing out that he did critisize Bush for the bail out and other things.

    Weather he actually did when it was happeneing i don't know i pretty much didn't know the guy existed until like a month ago.

  • ||

    Top Secret would be more likely, though the East Germans kept morphing into Nazis.

    My money was on Stripes, even though those were Czech guards. Top Secret works too.

  • ||

    Krugman didn't win a Nobel Prize for his idiotic statements, you know.

  • ||

    and yes Pro Lib, he was super delicious in Top Secret.

  • ||

    He should follow his mom's lead and kill himself.

    Ma Beck knew that she had to atone for the abomination she had spawned and she did the honorable thing.

    Why she didn't kill Glenn Beck first is a mystery, but it's probably related to his braindead status.

  • ||

    Real nice....you are very mature...do you have any brains, or only anger, like most liberals?

  • chrisjoi||

    Wow, such anger at those you disagree with. There is no proof his mother committed suicide this is simply another liberal smear campaign. Same as happened to Sarah Palin. since when do facts matter to liberal fascists?

  • ||

    Top Secret would be more likely, though the East Germans kept morphing into Nazis.

    You mean the East German bad guys....cuz i rememeber that the East German good guys morphing into the French resistance.

  • ||

    My vote is for Top Secret, which I've seen a number of times.

    Beck was a local radio host in Tampa when he started getting national attention. I'd listen to him on occasion and always thought that he'd be a libertarian if he were smarter. He annoyed me quite a bit with his drumbeating on L'Affaire Schiavo, though.

    Krugman was in Top Secret? I thought that was Omar Sharif.

  • Barack Obama||

    "He loses several sponsors for calling the president a racist"

    Let me make this perfectly clear. I am a racist.

  • ||

    Krugman v. Beck cage match.

    Warty gets to fuck the winner to death with his mutant porcupine penis.

  • Barack Obama||

    Just like my cracker grandmother.

  • ||

    Krugman was in Top Secret? I thought that was Omar Sharif.

    "Krugman, you farging bastage. You are nothing but an icehole."

  • ||

    Soominabotches

  • ||

    Ignorant, uninformed comments abound. Beck is far from a Republican shill.

    All of the advertisers listed as having pulled out of Beck's show, haven't pulled anything, and except for Wal-Mart, stated something along the lines of, don't advertise during controversial opinion shows, with no mention of Beck.

    Beck comes across as bordering on crazy, and on occasion does jump off the cliff, but 98% of what he says is grounded in reality. A reality that starts from a perspective of freedom and liberty as a primary concern. I'd expect most here would like him.

  • ||

    Beck comes across as bordering on crazy, and on occasion does jump off the cliff, but 98% of what he says is grounded in reality. A reality that starts from a perspective of freedom and liberty as a primary concern. I'd expect most here would like him.

    With friends like him....

  • ||

    This is not Mel Torme.

  • ||

    I have noticed that Beck toys on-air with jumping headlong into various conspiracy theories. For whatever that's worth.

  • ||

    After we cleanse this society of its "health care issue", we can work on the counties energy issue,.."FIRE UP THE OVENS",.. Sieg Hail Beck!!

  • kinnath||

    I'm just tired of jackasses like beck using the backward "R" to trigger emotions related to Soviet Russia.

    The russion letter you reference is pronounced "ya" you fucking dickhead.

  • TallDave||

    I still have almost no idea who this guy even is, but I keep hearing he makes lefties really really angry so I assume he must be doing something right.

  • ||

    kinnath,

    Ah, another product of the sleeper cell program. You're fluent in Russian, but you don't know why, right? ☺

  • ||

    All of the advertisers listed as having pulled out of Beck's show, haven't pulled anything, and except for Wal-Mart, stated something along the lines of, don't advertise during controversial opinion shows, with no mention of Beck.

    You ignominiously fail.

    A total of 33 Fox advertisers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc., CVS Caremark, Clorox and Sprint, directed that their commercials not air on Beck's show, according to the companies and ColorofChange.org, a group that promotes political action among blacks and launched a campaign to get advertisers to abandon him. That's more than a dozen more than were identified a week ago.

    From here.

  • ||

    Aelhues, Ron Paul can't even make it with this crowd. Beck's clown act doesn't work for me, but it seems that most people hare have no idea of what he stands for.

  • TallDave||

    ▲ ▲

    Triforce?

  • ||

    The reason he is dressed in an East German military uniform is because of the way this current administration is fixated on pushing it's Socialistic/Communist ways down the throats of every American , you bunch of ignorant morons, don't you know this book is about YOU!!

  • Colin||

    Are you sure that isn't a Soviet uniform?

    It would kind of explain the backward "R," which they probably think makes it look Russianesque.

  • Pink Cosmotarian||

    I'd expect most here would like him.

    But he's not our kind, daaaaahling!

  • Ska||

    I doubt Billy Crystal is a cosmotarian.

  • kinnath||

    You're fluent in Russian, but you don't know why, right?

    A little in high school; a brief refresher in college; and nineteen trips to Moscow.

    I can read street signs; can recognize entrance and exit signs; find my way around the metro; and make change at a street vendor. However, it's been almost 10 years since I've been there.

    It would kind of explain the backward "R," which they probably think makes it look Russianesque.

    About half the Cyrillic alphabet comes from Greek and about the other half comes from Roman. The "ya" is neither, but in block print form it looks exactly like a backward "R".

    So yeah, lot's of dipshits use it to imply Russia (and totalitarianism) without any clue as to what it really is.

  • EJM||

    Maybe the backwards "R" is supposed to be a reference to Toys "R" Us. ;)

    Krugman v. Beck cage match.

    How about a Beck vs. Beck (Hansen) cage match?

  • TallDave||

    J sub D,

    That's according to ColorofChange, headed by an actual self-described communist. Communists don't have a good track record with accuracy.

    Mostly these advertisers were never on Beck's time slot anyway, so for them it's win/win: they appease some leftist nutbags and don't have to change anything.

  • ||

    Is Billy Crystal teh gay or just really jewish?

    NTTAWWT

  • Mike M.||

    There's a story on Yahoo news about him losing several sponsors for calling Obama a racist.

    But I still have yet to hear a satisfactory explanation of what the heck a "typical white person" is.

  • The Angry Optimist||

    there is nothing for which a wing-nut can't be forgiven short of having compassion for non-whites or non-Christians.

    Oooh, let's out airhead the left! That'll do us a lot of fucking good.

  • nicole||

    Is it just me, or is he sort of disturbingly good at making that DDR film sneer?

  • ||

    How about a Beck vs. Beck (Hansen) cage match?

    I'll still be betting against both of them.

  • ||

    kinnath,

    Ah, so you're an open Communist as opposed to a member of a sleeper cell?

    Anyway, evil accusations aside, I assume "P" (rho in Greek) is the Cyrillic "R"?

  • Mike||

    "Stumbling in the right direction" is a great description of Beck. I dislike his schtick, and he really does come across as "not all there", but he's the best of a bad bunch.

    In a world of Hannitys and Maddows, complaining about Beck seems almost greedy.

  • ||

    How about a Beck vs. Beck (Hansen) cage match?

    Hansen has XENU in his corner. Don't mess with The Xensus.

  • Jim Treacher||

    You ignominiously fail.

    No, you do.

  • ||

    I agree, he's definitely not a straight GOP shill. I recall hearing him bitch about Bush more than once. He also gave quite a bit of airtime to Babar, I believe.

    Penn Jillette likes him, which is also a point in his favor in my book.

  • Xeones||

    The "ya" is neither, but in block print form it looks exactly like a backward "R".

    Also, in Russian it is used as the first person singular, same as "I" in English.

  • Xeones||

    I assume "P" (rho in Greek) is the Cyrillic "R"?

    Da, tovarisch.

  • Jim Treacher||

    That's according to ColorofChange, headed by an actual self-described communist.

    Not to mention Obama's Green Jobs Czar. Whoops, I mean "Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality."

  • kinnath||

    Ah, so you're an open Communist as opposed to a member of a sleeper cell?

    I an undercover communist hanging out on a liberatarian discussion board . . . .

    Anyway, evil accusations aside, I assume "P" (rho in Greek) is the Cyrillic "R"?

    Correct.

    So when you look at old coverage of the Olympics, those uniforms that said "CCCP" were the equivalent of "SSSR" -- where the first S was Soyuz (union).

  • ||

    Does anyone believe he actually wrote the book?

  • ||

    That's according to ColorofChange, headed by an actual self-described communist. Communists don't have a good track record with accuracy.

    That is an Associated Press article from today.
    Am I the only one who can fucking read around here?

  • ||

    Glenn Beck: on the record as arguing with the voices in his head?

  • ||

    Kinda stupid to put Glenn Beck as a Nazi.... Nazis were socialists that took over health care and banks and busines...

    Botox Pelosi should look on her OWN sleeve if she wants to see a swastika.

    I have heard that Sean Hannity might run for President.. he has my vote. Maybe Glenn for VP.

    I am listening to Rush right now and will watch Glenn and Sean on Fox tonight.

    NOBAMA! the bastard socialist racist.

  • ||

    Hansen has XENU in his corner. Don't mess with The Xensus.

    Wait, he's a freak-job Scientologist too?

    I didn't think it was possible to dislike him more than I already do.

  • ||

    Does anyone believe he actually wrote the book?

    How dare you suggest President Obama didn't write The Audacity of Hope! Racist.

  • ||

    ACORN! SEIU! Federal Reserve!

    They comin' to git mah guns!

    Fairness Doctrine!

    BilderbergsTrilateralCommissionUnitedNations!

    Arghheblaharrhhghhh!!!!

  • ||

    Wait, he's a freak-job Scientologist too?

    He was raised as one by his parents.

  • ||

    Moynihan is truly an idiot if he is missing the "unexplained" East German uniform. Here you go Mike: East Germany uniform=Stasi= Big Brother Government. Dope.

  • ||

    So, all the kids raised in old KGB sleeper cells appear to be libertarians now. I wonder why that is--typical teen rebellion against the parents and the Establishment?

  • Neu Mejican||

    Re: the books title.

    It indicates that he is arguing WITH the idiots, not AGAINST them?

  • kinnath||

    So, all the kids raised in old KGB sleeper cells appear to be libertarians now.

    I saw a news report in the late 90's showing rural Russians starting their own private gardens (the collectives were being broken up). If there was excess produce, the gardeners were allowed to sell it to the public. It was a huge success.

    The journalist asked one old lady how she liked this experiment with capitalism. The old lady responded that capitalism was evil and this was just an updated version of communism.

  • Xeones||

    The old lady responded that capitalism was evil and this was just an updated version of communism.

    That truly warms the cockles of my ol' agorist heart.

  • ||

    Many, many years ago, some of my college classmates were hired as escorts/guides for Iron Curtain athletes during a big international competition. My friends said all the commies wanted to do was go to KMart and gawk at all the stuff on the shelves.

    This had a powerful effect on me.

  • orf||

    I'm sick of this "Naziism is socialism" meme. Not all forms of statism are identical. Despite the fact that it used the word "socialist" in its name, the Reich was no more or less socialist than other European nations of the time. It was a corporatist welfare state.

    The Right is definitely correct to point out how different forms of statism blend together, but it's silly to pretend they're identical.

  • kinnath||

    That truly warms the cockles of my ol' agorist heart.

    I travelled to Moscow during the years immediately after the break up of the USSR -- 1994 to 1998.

    In many ways, the changes were catastrophic. Major industries either shut down or were "acquired" at a pitance under nefarious circumstances. The elderly were ravaged by run away inflation.

    On the other hand, stree vendors with carts became shop keepers with tiny shops and then became retailers with large stores.

    I haven't been back since Pushkin started to rebuild the empire. So I don't know what it's like now.

  • ||

    Say, that's not a bad idea. Trick leftists into libertarianism. Call it the New Liberalism or something like that. With a fifty-year plan (wink, wink) to give the bourgeois a free hand in their awful ways to set the foundation for the dictatorship of the proletariat, which will lead us to the stateless glory of true communism: Workers of the world unite!

    Meanwhile, everyone will be crazed capitalists and libertarians by the time fifty years is up.

  • kinnath||

    My friends said all the commies wanted to do was go to KMart and gawk at all the stuff on the shelves.

    We had some Russians that we had hired to work in an office in Moscow come over for a few working trips. They would stand out in the parking lot and take photos of all the cars.

  • The Angry Optimist||

    It indicates that he is arguing WITH the idiots, not AGAINST them?

    Generally, you don't argue with people with whom you agree. YMMV.

  • ||

    They would stand out in the parking lot and take photos of all the cars.

    So basically they were like regular americans with an even more fucked up government?

  • kinnath||

    So basically they were like regular americans with an even more fucked up government?

    My peer in Moscow lived with his wife and daugther in a one bedroom apartment that couldn't have been more than 400 sq ft.

    It technically belonged to the inlaws who had moved out. The waiting list for their own apartment was more than a decade.

  • kinnath||

    I'd take the Russians over the French any day.

  • Tony||

    He's actually the best of the mainstream news commentators on cable TV,

    Wow you really must be fat, drunk, and stupid.

  • ||

    I understand the "with friends like this" comment, due to the perception out there of Beck. However, the left's perception is almost exclusively based on context less quotes that serve to fuel their preconceptions of him. Many of those quotes actually portray the exact opposite of Beck's meaning. Not too terribly long ago there was an uproar on lefty sites because of a quote of Beck that made it sound like he believed there were camps in the US for retraining conservatives. When in reality, the show was about how the topic kept coming up in calls, and Beck was debunking the idea.

    Based on most of the comments here, I'm assuming many of you haven't watched or listened to more than two minutes of his show before developing your very negative opinion of him.

    I'm not even a big fan. He can be entertaining, but I don't like that he isn't more careful about a small percentage of the time that he gets into stuff that is clearly debunkable. But I certainly don't see that as a reason to bash him any more than any other opinion show host out there.

  • ||

    In many ways, the changes were catastrophic. Major industries either shut down or were "acquired" at a pitance under nefarious circumstances. The elderly were ravaged by run away inflation.

    The failure of those industries and inflation were inevitable consequences of Communist management of the economy.

  • ||

    Maybe instead of calling names Tony, you should put forth an alternative, and why you think that opinion guy is better. Course, that isn't your, or most lefty's way. Better to call names and avoid any actual intelligent conversation.

  • ||

    I'm surprised that it has taken this long for people to wake up to what Beck really is and what he is not. He is just another dry alcoholic, bigot, racist, hate mongering, greedy ole party, mormon fool who also believes that he is conservative. The only thing that is conservative about people like Beck, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Bill O Reilly & Rush Limbaugh is their dead sex lives. Since these people cannot find anything filthier than their own personal reflection, they have to go out and make up lies about others in order to find any sense of self worth.

  • The Angry Optimist||

    shut the fuck up, Johnny America.

  • Xeones||

    Maybe instead of calling names Tony, you should put forth an alternative, and why you think that opinion guy is better.

    Tony used to occasionally attempt to make points, but our constant mockery of his bad faith and refusal to use, you know, facts has started to break down his mind. Not that there was much to break in the first place.

  • kinnath||

    The failure of those industries and inflation were inevitable consequences of Communist management of the economy.

    No doubt.

    We had a runing joke: the only thing worse than getting drunk and waking up in a Russian jail, is getting drunk and waking up in a Russian hospital.

    Command economies cannot be sustained.

    No matter how good they look right now, ALL the single-payer health systems in the world will fail.

  • Barack Obama||

    "But I still have yet to hear a satisfactory explanation of what the heck a "typical white person" is."

    My cracker grandmother.

  • Tony||

    Maybe instead of calling names Tony, you should put forth an alternative, and why you think that opinion guy is better. Course, that isn't your, or most lefty's way. Better to call names and avoid any actual intelligent conversation.

    The guy's handle was "fat, drunk, and stupid," moron.

  • Tomcat1066||

    Wow you really must be fat, drunk, and stupid.

    You could have just said you were turned on...everyone already knows that's what you meant.

  • Barack Obama||

    "Does anyone believe he actually wrote the book?"

    For the last time, YES I WROTE DREAMS OF MY FATHER.

  • Xeones||

    everyone already knows that's what you meant.

    Only if there was testicular play involved.

  • ||

    Haven't you gotten the memo, aelhues?

    Beck's the latest guy it's cool to hate. We don't really know why or actually listen to the guy, but we just know.

    Circular firing squad initiated.

  • TallDave||

    That is an Associated Press article from today.

    Did you actually read the article?

    according to the companies and ColorofChange.org

    They're just quoting this group, and getting some comment from a couple of the companies.

  • kinnath||

    Beck's the latest guy it's cool to hate.

    The only time I "see" Beck is when he's on the TVs at the gym. There's no sound, but it appears that it is not necessary. One hissy fit looks just like another.

  • ||

    aelhues, I have listened to Beck on the radio and watched his teevee show several times. I like his serious rants as he often makes very good points. It is his shtick that bugs me. Him wearing lederhosen and doing the dance while railing against Obama's version of works projects was just a comparison with the Hitler Youth. Which he denied on O'Reilly with a wink and a nod.
    If he would stick to serious commenting on the subjects and lose the bullshit he would be golden. The followers of the folks in charge have a very low tolerance for his hyperbole and sarcasm side and it plays right into the hands of the left.

  • ||

    His beer is okay.

  • The Angry Optimist||

    yeah, other than have Bob Barr on like, 20 times, what has Glenn Beck done to raise the profile of libertarianism, anyway?

  • Meta4||

    "The only thing that is conservative about people like Beck, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Bill O Reilly & Rush Limbaugh is their dead sex lives."

    I think Beck is a closeted gay. That's what my instints tell me. I understand he has a wife and kids, but I know several gay men that first had to go through that phase before exiting the closet.

  • Yakhov||

    Many, many years ago, some of my college classmates were hired as escorts/guides for Iron Curtain athletes during a big international competition. My friends said all the commies wanted to do was go to KMart and gawk at all the stuff on the shelves. This had a powerful effect on me.

    In Soviet Russia, gov't store calls Blue Light Special on you!

  • ||

    "The only time I "see" Beck is when he's on the TVs at the gym. There's no sound, but it appears that it is not necessary. One hissy fit looks just like another."

    Yes, because we know someone concerned about individual liberty would never "throw a hissy fit", especially considering the current state of politics in this country.

    Emotional fools.

  • Tony\'s Fat, Drunk, Pasty-Face||

    Oh THERE you are my little teabagger! I've been looking EVERYWHERE for you. Now come give your daddy a kiss.

  • ||

    Christ - in that state of mind someone might actually even work themselves into a state of open revolt. *shudder* Heaven forbid.

  • ||

    TAO,

    The only time I ever watched Beck on TV was one of his Babar interviews. But I did note during channel surfing that he was on multiple times. Gotta give credit for giving that much airtime to the LP candidate.

  • TallDave||

    It technically belonged to the inlaws who had moved out. The waiting list for their own apartment was more than a decade.

    Under ObamaCare, you'll have that same level of service for your healthcare!

    And they wonder why these town halls are attracting angry mobs.

  • ||

    I agree Brotherben. Which is why I'm not a fan. He goes overboard in the name of entertainment, or so I suspect. I'm a more serious person, who prefers serious topics to be handled carefully, and with close adherence to verifiable truth. But that doesn't mean I support the ridiculous accusations that are made against him.

  • ||

    Beck's the latest guy it's cool to hate

    Not true! I've hated him from the beginning, before it was cool to hate him.

    I can't really explain it. He just REALLY gets on my nerves.

  • ||

    Oh, and in case that wasn't clear, I'm talking about Beck Hansen.

  • TallDave||

    Is Billy Crystal teh gay or just really jewish?

    It's been all downhill since Running Scared.

  • ||

    Beck is entertaining etc only when it's apparent he's got a loose screw. I mean that in a good way.

  • kinnath||

    Yes, because we know someone concerned about individual liberty would never "throw a hissy fit", especially considering the current state of politics in this country.

    I find zero appeal in listening to talking heads that spit all over the camera -- his politics are not relevant.

  • Hyperion||

    I am more than a little surprised to find so much dislike of Beck on a supposedly Libertarian site. Although he does lean a little too far right on some issues for my taste, and also occasionally gets off into some crazy conspiracy theory stuff, most of his viewpoints are in my opinion more Libertarian than anyone else in the MSM or Cable news networks. I have even heard Beck say that he is a Conservative, but maybe more of a Libertarian. If he would just come out and take a stance against the war on drugs then he may just be a real Libertarian. Of course Fox would throw him out for that.

  • wingnutx||

    Trick leftists into libertarianism. Call it the New Liberalism or something like that.

    Classical Liberalism?

    Beck has a tendency to go off on tinfoil jags, like the cars.gov thing.

    If I had a nickel for every time I heard a GOP hack call themselves a libertarian during a Democratic administration, I'd have $6.35.

    That is an Associated Press article from today.
    Am I the only one who can fucking read around here?

    This is a story by a guy who did some actual fucking reporting, instead of just fucking regurgitating what one of Obama's fucking toadies said. Try fucking reading that.

  • ||

    Actually, now that I think about it, both Becks get on my nerves equally.

    Glenn Beck shouts so much that he should be the next Doctor.

  • ||

    ""Is Billy Crystal teh gay or just really jewish?""

    Both?

    I've tried to like Beck, sometimes he seem alright then you seem him talking about bullshit. Like the time he claimed to have credible information that a nuclear bomb was enroute to NYC.

    """I think Beck is a closeted gay. That's what my instints tell me. I understand he has a wife and kids, but I know several gay men that first had to go through that phase before exiting the closet."""

    I think Beck married to Donnie Osmond. In a couple of hundred years it will be the Mormon's equalvant of the DiVinci Code.

  • ||

    If I had a nickel for every time I heard a GOP hack call themselves a libertarian during a Democratic administration, I'd have $6.35.

    If you're gonna be intentionally humorless and pedantic, at least be accurate.

    "With" in the sense of "I would argue, along with others before me, that Beck's best album was his first album.

  • Cliché Bandit||

    To the Russian points.

    The half Greek and half Latin characters is exactly correct.

    I married a Russian and let me tell ya, Moscow is one crazy cool and authoritarian city (6' gorgeous women everywhere and the only men were short cops out to extort tourists...I paid 200 US for a couple of pokeys on Red Square to leave us alone right after my wife lit into them with typical Russian Female Vengence...kind of a warning for me I guess, she was actually scaring me...and the cops too).

    I saw what can only be described as the most pure form of nascent capitalism I have ever see. This was exemplified in the taxis: If you hava a car and you have room and you see someone with their hand up you become a taxi. Really awesome. • kinnath||

    If you hava a car and you have room and you see someone with their hand up you become a taxi. Really awesome.

    The Moscow Times reported a story in the late 90's where a foreign national was standing on the street trying to wave down an private citizen to get a "taxi" ride.

    A big, black official car with police plates stopped, and the cop inside rolled down the window. The foreign national was shaking in his boots, when the cop asked him where he was going and negotiated a price.

  • highnumber||

    Jeff Beck was never much of a drug user, if at all (as I recall from an interview in a recent MOJO). I doubt he cares much about the War on Drugs. And he's a longtime vegetarian, for whatever that's worth. He's not your average Rock Star.

  • ||

  • The Libertarian Guy||

    According to Merriam Webster Online:

    racism: * Function: noun
    * Date: 1933

    1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
    2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

    bigot: * Function: noun
    * Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
    * Date: 1660

    : a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

    So... how do any of these people actually fit these definitions? Or are people just using the "they're racists and bigots because we say they're racists and bigots"?

    Bear in mind, I have as much use for Limbaugh as I do for his doppelganger, Ed Schultz, but let's not misuse terminology here.

  • The Libertarian Guy||

    Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop was a hella album.

  • Neu Mejican||

  • ||

    He should just borrow Jeff Dunham's title: "Arguing with Myself"

    Obama, as an affirmative action supporter so he should love Glenn Beck. Beck fits into affirmative action under the disabilities section (he has ADHD).

  • ||

    Hee, hee. Look at the funny small-minded Liberal Socialists posting on here. Beck has your number, baby, and that's why you love him. Beck is so far out in front of most people that it doesn't surprise me in the least that the entrenched mindsets feel compelled to spew hate in his general direction -- it defines you so well.

    BTW, Moynihan, that's a Russian uniform.

  • ||

    its funny how most comments are left wing, and are desperatley trying to discredit his lifes work by shrugging him of as ignorant. He is the only voice out there right now telling the truth. While you rely on CNN and other major media stations monopolized by democrats that wont provide the whole truth.

  • ||

    Good Lord, as a young Libertarian I have to say this entire thread has disappointed me...I haven't seen such a collection of near left wing style hate rhetoric since my last reading of Huffington Post.

    I watch Glenn Beck, I read Reason, and guess what, Glenn Beck is more in tune with Libertarian philosophy than pretty much any other pundit out there in the "conservative media"...and I use the term loosely.

    I just have to say, if this thread is an indicator of the best and brightest that the libertarian party has to offer, we're fucking doomed.

  • ||

    Love the new book cover. It certainly will and already is raising the hackles of the morons it was meant to tick off. I think he found a gold mine here.

    Glenn Beck is a genius compared to our small minded socialist puppet of a President.

    Your naive if you think Obama isnt a racist. The guy has surrounded himself by racists and hateful people his whole life....He still does. The little I heard had a nice groove to it. The bass player was always underrated with VH imo. Sammy's pretty badass on the guitar himself. I'm lookin forward to it. Thanks again.

  • ||

    Wow,

    Judging by some of the comments on here, I get the feeling that some on here are are cross posting at DailyKos and Democrat Underground.

    Clearly most on here talking the most garbage have never even seen Beck, let alone even listened to him. If they had they wouldn't be saying stupid crap like saying Beck says to vote for Republicans. Beck bashes on Republicans as much as he does Democrats.

    I have seen more Libertarians on his show than any other news program.

    FWIW, Beck also supports Rand Paul who is running for the senate in my state. Rand is a member of the Republican party, as is Ron Paul.

    Maybe some Libertarians on here should actually win some elections that matter before they start talking crap. Or is there another reason both Ron and Rand run as Republicans instead of Libertarian?

    I am a Libertarian who would vote for one if I could find one that was worth half a shit.

    Seems the Democrats don't have the market cornered on self absorbed, self righteous elitist who wouldn't even qualify as" has beens" because they never progressed past the "never were" status.

  • ||

    Robert, not everyone commenting here is a libertarian. I am a lefty in some ways and am leaning toward smaller govt as a result of many good conversations here. Granted, they were puntuated by cursing and name-calling and hyperbole and strawmen from all sides. They were, in the end, profitable for me and I hope for others as well.

  • The Angry Optimist||

    Robert - Bob Barr was worth way more than "half a shit", especially compared to McCain. I respectfully submit that if you couldn't see that, maybe you have the whacked perspective.

  • The Libertarian Guy||

    No problem, bro'ben. That'll be ten bucks for the finders' fee.

    Okay, five.

    Eh, hell, I'll write this one off to charity.

    Let me guess, he advocates voting for Republicans, who never, ever ever ever increase the size of government.

    Beck rails against -all- politicians who lose their ideals and begin working to perpetuate the one-party state of incumbentstan. Establishment repubs have definitely not escaped any kickings.

  • The Libertarian Guy||

    Beck's show was depressingly good tonight. He went over the catestrophic finiancial black hole that the fucking Fed Govt has put us in.

    He did a profile of the out-and-out Communist working in the White House. No Michele the beast, or Barry the Hussien.. one of his czars.

    And more and more... things no one else is talking about because of the stupor that is over everyone while the country is literally being plundered and burned.

    Why not get a real candidate elected and then spew your monkey vomit?

  • Fluffy||

    Oh, so because Beck is nice to Rand Paul THIS year I'm supposed to forget how he shit on RON Paul LAST year?

    The only way to like Beck is to have a short memory.

    I'm just not going to instantly forget the insane amount of Bush cock Beck smoked. Sorry.

    If Beck lies on the steps of Canterbury Cathedral and lets me flog him once for every time he fellated the Bush statist juggernaut, when that's done if he's still alive I'll believe that his 2009 small government jive is sincere. Because right now, I think it's just bullshit he's tossing out there now that a Democrat is in power, in order to trick people with short memories. Just like Limbaugh.

    Despite the fact that it used the word "socialist" in its name, the Reich was no more or less socialist than other European nations of the time.

    All property anywhere within the Reich was subject to immediate requisition on demand under the Fuhrerprinzip. All property as a result effectively belonged to the state; the individual possessors had it only as long as the party didn't want it. Sounds like socialism to me. Was all property in, say, Switzerland subject to immediate confiscation on the spot at the whim of the head of state of Switzerland? If not, then Germany wasn't really just like the other European nations of the time.

  • ||

    Chickenhawks love to play dress-up & make-believe.

  • ||

    I dunno how I get dragged into doing this. I rarely listen to Limbaugh, and think he's definitely past his prime, but . . .

    He was never a supporter of Bush's spending. He is consistently talking the talk on small government, lower taxes, self-sufficiency, all that jazz. He was never a McCain fan.

    Yeah, he's a social con, but on economics at least he is spreading the libertarian message.

  • Fluffy||

    Dean, we've been over this before.

    If Limbaugh hated Clinton as a big government liberal with a quantity of hate we can call "X", then since Bush was 10 times as bad as Clinton on big government issues we should have seen Limbaugh hate Bush by "10X".

    Since Limbaugh did not demonstrate such hatred, somewhere in the equation there has to be some pretty dramatic insincerity. Limbaugh would have died of heart failure at some point during the Bush administration if he had been at all consistent in the application of the standard of hatred he developed during the Clinton years. Since the man's still alive, I am forced to conclude that he is and was full of shit.

  • Tony||

    As a guitarist of quite a few years I will wade in .... of the YB Triumvirate, Clapton is the least talented, I saw a vid on YouTube where Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck were playing and Page looked absolutely amazed as Beck played the lead break.
    I favour Ritchie Blackmore over any of them tho; and for blues, Rory Gallagher or Johnny Winter, I also like Colin James because he can switch genres at the drop of a hat and play all of them amazingly well ... SRV took Colin on tour with him because he appreciated CJ's ability
    Jazz.... give me Benson, DiMeola, McLaughlin or even Beck from Wired or Blow by Blow

  • Art-P.O.G.||

    C'mon, Beck is obviously being ironic with this cover.

    Yeah, but I don't know if it's good irony. If what Doc Merlin says is true, it goes a long way toward explaining why the title and the cover image don't quite seem to work together, IMO. P.S. I don't think big minds and big government are better than small minds and big government.

    Ok the only company to actually pull their advertising from beck is walmart. Everyone else never advertised on his show. His big advertisers are still with him. So he hasn't lost much money.

    And high viewership does equal money in and of itself because Fox/Beck can still charge high rates to advertise on his show.

    After Pelosi's Nazi argument and his work on rooting out the very weird communist/socialist/radical people in the Obama administration- the cover makes sense. It'll certainly catch attention and might get more people to buy.

  • JET||

    Glenn, you're off your meds again, aren't you?

  • ||

    Paul, Wired indeed! I'd add Warren Haynes in terms of variety of styles. On High and Mighty it's like each lead has him channeling other greats, Hendrix, Allman, West, Gibbons, Clapton, and even some Beck.

  • ||

    Clapton's talent is always playing with the best musucians. These days he has Dereck Trucks, Doyle Bramhall and Steve Winwood picking up his slack. Best guitar band in a long time.

  • ||

    Don't go hatin' on Clapton, now.

    Beck should've used the Obama Joker image as the cover. That would've been funny and provoked such an outcry that he'd have sold twice as many books.

  • The Libertarian Guy||

    Shut the fuck up, Tony.

    This whole time I thought Glen Beck was just Martin Short in a fat costume, I still think he may be actually.

    It's my understanding he has actually gained sponsers...Unilever...for example.

    But hey, this is America, and you're allowed to live in your own little dream world...bwahahahhahahahaha.

  • ||

    Notice the backwards 'R' in the title and the soviet military uniform he's wearing (no, it's not East German)? The book is about debunking the fallacies of socialism. All idiots should read it before demonstrating the extent of their idiocy here with stupid comments.

  • Kevin||

    It seems weird that a libertarian magazine is downing Glenn Beck. He's the small government king of the airwaves.

  • Kevin||

    "Ok the only company to actually pull their advertising from beck is walmart. Everyone else never advertised on his show. His big advertisers are still with him. So he hasn't lost much money."

    Actually, Geico also pulled their ads. I know because I threatened to cancel my policy over them getting involved in politics. They basically gave me the finger. But they are so much cheaper than the nearest competitor, I had to wuss out on boycotting them. 'Cause I'm cheap as hell :(.

  • FINJA||

    If you buy this book, you a retarded.

    Glenn, punch yourself in the crotch.

    This is a book written by the Joseph Goebbels of FAUX news. Nobody should support his crap by purchasing his book or watching his show.

  • ||

    This is an incredible satirical cover. I cannot wait to read this! Obviously there are many small minds on this site that don't get the point Mr. Beck is trying to make. Absolutely brilliant!

  • ||

    Ha ha! You whining losers can't stand that Beck shows you up on a daily basis. This book will go number one like Beck's last book. What Beck don't realize is that when you guys are confronted with the facts you plug your ears and scream louder. But on the off chance that some of you will actually welcome an actual debate, I am ordering my copy in advance.

  • ||

    Sorry about the typo in the last post. I'm sure you morons will have loads of fun ridiculing me. I caught it as soon as I posted it - but, unlike other sites, there is no edit function here.

  • ||

    For all the Beck haters: Did any of you ever think that he may have posed like this to get all of the idiots he is writing about to discuss the cover?

    Go ahead and make all if your snide comments. No one that is bashing him has ever truely watched his show or listened to the radio program. Keep watching Oberman and keep being a pawn in our fastly approaching socialist government. It truely is amazing how many idiots there are in the world.

    Another interesting note is the fact that most comments do bash Beck. It is interesting because his viewership has never been higher. For that reason I wonder why EVERYONE hates him...hmmm....oh that's right, his audience has jobs. The people on this site who bash him do not. Make perfect sense now.

  • Nick||

    Hilarious! I love it! All you liberal fascists can eat it!

  • ||

    The boycott of Beck is from Colorofchange and was founded by Obama's self-avowed communist "green czar" Jones, who founded that group, because Beck has been exposing his radical past , but hey if Jones didn't want it to catch up to him he shouldn't have written or been on tape admitting to being a communist.

  • ||

    Reading some of the comments on here, looks like I will have to buy Glenn's book, hopefully there is a chapter on "how to educate the ignorant"

  • ||

    Can't wait to read it... lots of idiots out there. some made their way here...lol

  • ||

    Glenn Beck is the one with a "Small Mind" he's a bigoted zelot, which give decent and inteligent conservatives bad names by circulating and conjouring fake stories just to make head lines...

    please consevatives take off your foil hats, stop making up death pannels and mostly stop lying! If you don't there will be none of you left to counter liberals...

    it's the political pendulum, we sung conservative now we swing liberal!

  • ||

    Glenn is flaming out? dont think so

    he had 3,040,000 million viewers last night at 5pm.

    Mathews on MSNBC at 5pm... 536,000
    Olbermann at 8pm... 1,091,000

    Glenn Beck is a Patriot. If you would open your mind and listen to a mere hour of his radio show, or 10 minutes of his tv show, you're eyes would be opened. For example...Glenn is the only person in the media who is talking about people like Van Jones, one of the president's czars, who has an extensive criminal record and is an avowed and self declared communist. And so you know, although Glenn has lost some sponsers, his ratings continue to skyrocket past any other talk show host on Television. Why?? because REAL AMERICANS look past the rhetoric and lies of the criminals and tax cheats on the Obama administration and into the truth of what they are trying to mold this country into. I would invite everybody, liberals and all who read this to watch Glenn's episodes from this past week. There are several excerpts on Youtube.

  • Jeremy||

    AND SO YOU KNOW---Glenn has NEVER EVER said anything racist. That is a blatant slandering lie from the media and the left who would like nothing more than to crush the giant of a man that Glenn is. You people who say that he is racist--YOU HAVE NEVER WATCHED A FULL EPISODE OF THE GLENN BECK PROGRAM, SO STOP BLOWING SMOKE AND DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR YOUR DAMN COUNTRY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!

    GLENN backs ALL of his facts. If you think he doesn't... WHY DON'T YOU PROVE IT?!?!?? You CAN'T because you have NEVER SEEN HIS PROGRAM! And if you have, you have never researched his facts, you just stick your head in your liberal close-minded hole and yell "racist! racist!" when heaven knows you don't even know what the damn word means! If you don't open your eyes to see what standing on your side of line means, than you'll find yourself on the side that is against the Constitution, against Freedom, and against America.

    I want to THANK Glenn Beck for giving a voice to those of us who cherish the Republic of the United States. He has turned the light on in the kitchen at 2 am ... the cockroaches are scurrying about, looking for cracks and crawl spaces ... If we understand our history and the sacrifices made for this republic by our predecessors ... we will eradicate the roaches and drive them from our home ...

    I will not stand by politely, afraid of conflict, any longer ...

  • ||

    I will make sure that I stop buying the products of the companies that pulled-out their advertisement to Glen Beck show, we should not allow the censorship of commentator just because they a have a different view. US will be like China, Iran, Venesuela and Cuba, toe the government line or else....

  • ||

    Hey, fans of Glenn "Col. Klink" Beck -- Fox News is fake! And along the same lines, so is wrestling! Might as well ruin all your ignorant entertainment at the same time. You drooling right-wing morons shouldn't be allowed to vote.

  • ||

    We love you, Glenn! Keep up the good work!

  • ||

    BrotherBen your the poster boy for all the Idiots Glenn wrote about.....

    Jeremy,
    Many of us liberals do in fact watch Glenn Beck's show. I wince at it as if I were passing by an automobile accident. But you have to know your opposition. And one thing I am sure of is that Beck's show is entirely divorced of facts. Van Jones does not have an extensive criminal past. He was wrongly arrested ONCE for being present at a protest. And he has never referred to himself as a Communist. You are clearly repeating word-for-word Beck's arguments, and they are significantly flawed.

    And you are even worse than Beck for following his haphazard claims, which are base and alarmist merely for the sake of ratings. The blind leads the blind. And I have a question. What is a "REAL AMERICAN?" And, why do idiotic conservatives such as yourself cling to these absurd phrases? I posit the only real Americans were evicted from this land and diseased to near extinction centuries ago. What we have today is a immigrant-nation of European descendants who have gained their wealth on account of African and Latin American cheap/slave labor. Conservative rhetoric is so blind to history that it makes my head spin.
    Wake up conservatives. We are trying to help poor people, we Democrats and liberals, and that is all. No government take-overs, no Reichstag, and no 1984. Your days of Regan-era trickle down economics are over. It is time for a trickle up approach. You might think that's a socialist ideal, but I believe it is a Christian one. The poor have a right to be treated for illness the same as anyone else, just as you would not expect an ambulance to arrive any faster or slower depending on what your income is.

  • ||

    Its an east german uniform because the idiots have the same assumptions and beliefs as the east german government did.

  • ||

    "And he has never referred to himself as a Communist."

    You should check your facts before you commit comments to the web:

  • ||

    Why is Glenn "The Asshole" Beck dressed like an Italian movie usher?

  • ||

    I'm not sure why everyone's stating Beck's wearing an East German tunic here,
    when it looks more like a Bundeswehr (modern German Armed Forces, Army) tunic:

    Vs. East German:

    They look similar because they're both German (even though they are from two different countries with two different governmental ideologies), but the Bundeswehr collar tabs are rectanguler (only 90 degree angles), while the East German tabs are not. Even on the "open-collar" East German uniforms for officers (not shown), the collar tabs are large, metal and non-rectangular.

    Glenn Beck is the reason why I listen to NPR.

    I'd rather not sit through a bunch of self-righteous "personalities" on TV, JUST to get a bit of information.

    If I want to be entertained, I'll watch Comedy Central. Comedy and theater don't belong on NEWS networks.
