The Republican Revenge Caucus

In 2006, the Democrats became the first party in several generations to gain seats in the House in Senate without losing any of their own. They held their open seats, they defended their incumbents.

Lou Barletta - The mayor of Hazelton, Pennsylvania, whose emergency anti-illegal immigration laws made him into a national celebrity, the toast of green rooms from Lou Dobbs to Glenn Beck to Bill O'Reilly. As Marin Cogan writes in the New Republic, Barletta is, ironically, running as an optimistic, vim-and-vigor agent of change... just like that other guy who's ahead in the polls in Pennsylvania!

Democrat Kanjorski, on the other hand, is basically mummified.

Tom Rooney - The wealthy nephew of Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney and a former member of the Army JAG Cops, Rooney was eventually going to win a seat in his district around Palm Beach, Florida. But he was running behind accidental Rep. Tim Mahoney, the conservative Democrat who lucked out when Mark Foley's career imploded... until Mahoney laid some dynamite under his own career with multiple extramarital affairs. Rooney will win in landslide and then, as is district tradition, be caught pantsless inside a bordello two weeks before the 2010 election.

Pete Olson - Democrat Nick Lampson also won in a total fluke last year: Tom DeLay resigned his Houston-area, Sugarland-centered district too late for a new candidate to take his place on the ballot, so Republicans were stuck with write-in candidate Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, whose name was literally too long to write in. As a non-crazy, non-hyphenated Republican who actually made the ballot, Olson's been able to run a fairly bog standard GOP campaign and surge to a huge lead.

Bill Russell
- Until he called his southwest Pennsylvania district a "racist area," Rep. John Murtha was safely winning re-election over Russell, a carpetbagging military vet who moved to the district because he hated Murtha so much. The damage wasn't so bad until Murtha clarified that his area used to be "really redneck," but wasn't anymore. He still would have been fine if Russell was an underfunded fringe candidate, but the man spent a year raising more than $2 million from a national network of Murtha-haters.

As a 9-11 Pentagon survivor and Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, Bill understands the sacred obligation civilian leaders owe to military personnel and their families. He’ll always honor their service and sacrifice. Beyond a strong defense, Bill believes our national security policies must include an aggressive plan for energy independence, and the confrontation of radical, violent jihad.

None of these guys are moderates; none are particularly libertarian. You get another sense of the shape that a post-McCainageddon GOP conference will take.

    I don't live in Ron Paul's or Jeff Flake's district. That pretty much sums up the libertarian leaning GOP congressional delegation. Two outcasts of a minority party that has thrown in with the Swaggert/Falwell crowd. Where's Dondero to explain how these jerks are "more libertarian" than the party of cradle to grave welfare statists?

  • Elemenope||

    J sub --

    I fully expect the GOP to go full retard over the next eight years. No moderates (most of whom they've already driven out), no libertarians.

  • ||

    El, exactly - because sadly all they learned is that the evangelical vote was mobilized under Bush, and not under McCain. The GOP has ushered in a permanent minority.

  • ||

    The civil war will be quick, but bloody.

  • ||

    Joe,

    As long as talk radio dies as a result of collateral damage, all I can say is "Bring it on"

  • ||

    Here's hoping that corrupt blowhard Murtha goes down. He's the military genius who recommended that we redeploy from Iraq to Okinawa, from where we could respond to any Middle East crisis "almost instantly."

  • ||

    Wow, that's quite the caucus.

  • ||

    For the good of the country Murtha needs to go down. His list of sins is too long to name here. That said, he is such an embarassment to the Democrats I am kind of sorry to see him go. I think Joe is the last person not on his personal payroll who still defends him.

  • ||

    Holycrap. I served in the Army with Tom Rooney. He is a good guy. Kind of non-entity. I wouldn't call him charismatic. But, he is a stand up guy and not a crook. I will have to give him a call when he gets in office.

  • Kolohe||

    Joe,

    As long as talk radio dies as a result of collateral damage, all I can say is "Bring it on"

    The problem is that it'll be just the opposite. Talk radio will serve as their redoubt, their Helm's Deep. Heck, some of them, like Mark Levin, use bunker terminology for their bump segments. Many of them honestly believe they are Irish monks keeping the flame of Western Civilization alive during the soon to be imminent dark ages.

  • ||

    Still sore, John?

    That why you're making up statements for me again?

  • Warty||

    The wealthy nephew of Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney

    He is evil. Kill him.

  • ||

    Joe you have defended Murtha on here numorous times. If you have changed your mind, feel free to go after the guy and kick him when he is down now that he is no longer useful. I would be fun to hear you say something bad about a Democrat. I don't think I have ever witnessed that.

    Can you really bring yourself to do it? Here is your chance. You can finally show the world that there is a Democrat you don't like and won't defend. I always accuse you of never being able to do that. Go ahead and prove me wrong. I bet you don't have the stomach to do it. The best you can do is say "I didn't say that". Come on Joe give us a good rant on how bad Murtha is. I would love to hear it.

  • ||

    Then you could no doubt find an example, John.

    Cue jeopardy theme.

  • ||

    Or are you using the word "defending" to mean "agreement on any particular issue?"

    That seems like the sort of thing you'd do.

  • ||

    Then just say why Murtha is such a bad guy Joe. Just say it. Type the words. You can't do it. You can't bring yourself to actually type the words "Democrat John Murtha is a national embarassment and deserves to lose his bid for Re-election". It is actually really funny. It is like you have been through some kind of psychological conditioning that prevents you from doing it. Did you go through some kind of Democratic Clockwork Orange treatment or something?

  • T||

    Did you go through some kind of Democratic Clockwork Orange treatment or something?

    How would that work? Every time he reached for a ballot marked R they'd juice him? Would he still get the Beethoven playing in the background, so he has a pathological aversion to both Beethoven and Republicans? Wouldn't it leave him unable to defend himself against the GOP?

  • joe||

    If I have a point to make about John Murtha at some point, John, I'll make it. Right now, I have no reason to.

    You're not an organ grinder, and I'm not a monkey.

    I've been to Hazelton, and economically speaking, it's a shithole. I would think Barletta would have better things to do than run around bashing immigrants. I guess not...

    All three of them are libertarian, most especially Olson. But then again they're decidedly not leftwing libertarian as is the Editorial Board of Reason. Thus, the sny back-handed remarks from ultra-liberal posing as a libertarian Weigel.

    Remember, Weigel admits he voted for Communist Kerry in 2004. Can his judgement on who is and who is not a libertarian be trusted on anything?

  • ||

    My God, Joe really must have been brainwashed. He really can't do it. I was just being snarky. I figured he would come back and say something bad just to prove a point. Wow.

    Wouldn't Republican Revenge Squad have been the more classically-inspired title?

    [FVO "classical" that consider 1960s Superman comics to be part of the canon, of course.]

    I figured he would come back and say something bad just to prove a point.

    That you are this easy to manipulate doesn't mean anybody else is, John.

    Why, exactly, am I supposed to write something about John Murtha? Because you say I should? Because I'm supposed to care if you think my points are too friendly to Democrats, and go out of my way to seek your approval?

    Yeah. Right. I'll get right on that.

    THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HIJACK....MORALS and CHRISTIANITY

    The Republican Party hijack moral value and christianity and created Evangelical Christian! To this day I don't understand the difference between Evangelical Christain and just Christain. Nor do I think GOD cares! The problem with the Republican Party is that most don't have a moral compus that they themself practice in their lifes! In other words ''HYPOCCRITE! The Republican Party and the white mojarity have push the envelope to where they think the envelope should be! Then the practice of these groups is to criticize everybody NOT THEM! What is amoral one day the next day or next moment it's OK! Nothing was more apparent then the Janet Jackson incident! Her three second tit at the super bowl half time! CBS, broadcaster of the 2004 boob-exposing Super Bowl, challenge the $550,000 fine that the Federal Communications Commission hit it with for showing some of a black woman's breast very briefly. There, the court will have to decide if Janet Jackson's breast was being deliberately indecent or just accidentally indecent. WHAT A JOKE!! The next night at 8 pm on ABC ''NYPD showed a white man's butt and a white women's tits! And nothing was said!''HYPOCCRITE !McCain's wife was a thief and would have been the first thief as FIRST LADY' had McCain WON! The white pundits never stated that fact! Just another example of mojarity rules! PUSHING THE ENVELOPE ONES AGAIN!

    DEAMONISE DISENFRANCHISE DESTROY...... The 3's (DDD)!

    The Republican Party failure is their practice of the three D's ! DEAMONISE DISENFRANCHISE DESTROY''! We saw this in the general election of Senator John McCain against Senator Obama. McCain and the Republican Party attacked any and everyone assoiated with Obama. Senator Elizabeth Dole send out an fundraising letter in which she accused her challenger of meeting with 'those people' - atheists, secularists, humanists - that no good North Carolinian would be comfortable sitting down to dinner with. She was losing so Dole did what Republicans do. DDD! McCain did it by first deamonising Obama assoiate . Like in the case of Rev.Wright ! Here was a man that serve his country both in the Marine and Navy. Had been a pastor over 35 years. Had programs in his church that help his community of all colors. The Republican Party along with McCain took 20 minute of video clips and destroy 20 years relationship with Obama and Rev.Wright! Then it was Bill Ayer ! Now this man did some evil things when Senator Obama was 8 years old ! Senator Obama at 8 years old knew nothing of Ayers. But that did not stop the Republican Party and McCain. They told the public that because of Ayer past Obama is guilty! OF WHAT? They never told the public! The real funny thing is that Ayer is a Professor at a college and never was convicted of being a terrorist. DEAMONISE DISENFRANCHISE DESTROY is also practice by white racism. Blacks where deamonise then disenfranchise. And for the past 200 plus years. White racism has been trying to destroy the black race or at the lease disenfranchise!

    TRUE PATROITISM AND BLACK AMERICANS

    Patroitism and black people go hand and hand. More so then any other race of Americans. Our American government and white racism is behind that truth. The reason I make that statement is. Just find any other race of Americans that fought and died for America in wars. When the American government fought agaisnt you discriminated against you hated you disrespected your children? And had government laws like "Jim Crow Law"! It was black Americans that fought and died to vote for white people back in the early 1950. Blacks still went to school a Pledge Allegiance to the flag. In 2000 there have been many un armed black Americans murder. Children as young as 6 years old to adults as old as 92 years by white cops . And America could careless. My father enter a seperate but so-call equal Korean War as a American! He told story of black American troops that where put on the front line more so then white troops. Or the fact that blacks where serve last in the mess hall lines. My father told story of blacks that where never promoted while in the service. When whites would get promoted for just showing up. Bottom line blacks still went into the service and fought and died for their country despite the disrespect. American value and patroitism is what white Americans have to be taught! White leadership is so needed in this country. Re- education is so needed in this country for all Americans. Blacks have been taught to feel less than and whites have been taught to feel better than.
