Ron Paul's campaign confirms that it collected $5,080,000 in the third quarter of fundraising. That's more than double the campaign's second quarter haul of $2.4 million; it's also as much as "comeback" candidate John McCain has reportedly raised. Paul has $5.3 million cash on hand, again topping McCain.
That's a far larger total than anyone expected from Paul and it clobbers the rumored numbers that were floating around this week: The Wall Street Journal had reported a $3 million haul. But Paul's 11th hour fundraiser, which raised $1.2 million in seven days, demonstrated that the Paul donation machine had dramatically grown during the summer.
UPDATE: The campaign gloats a little in its press release, pointing out that the top 3 (non-Fred) candidates had fallen off this quarter: Romney by 29 percent, Giuliani by 40 percent, McCain by 55 percent.
Here are Paul's numbers quarter by quarter:
Q1: $639,889
Q2: $2.40 million
Q3: $5.08 million
So he's raised about $8.2 million and spent $2.9 million, a burn rate of around 35 percent. That's a little lower than the burn rate for the frontrunning candidates—though if you're a cynic you could ask why Paul's investment hasn't shown up in the polls. (UPDATE II: Devil's advocate: Paul actually has risen into the 2-4 percent range in New Hampshire, up from the zero he was scoring back in January.)

no, no, no, it was the same dollar bill that got donated 5 million times. Spam! Spam!
PAY NO ATTENTION TO RON PAUL. RON PAUL STEALS ALL OF FRED
THOMPSON'S IDEA.
COME TO Fred Thompson
Forum AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR FREEDOM AND KILLING THE
ISLAMOFASCISTS.. THEY HATE US FOR OUR FREDDOMS
Hey "Fred Thompson" you are clueless. The only ideas Ron Paul is
"stealing" is the ones in the Constitution.
Thompson is CFR scum and a fascist like the
Bush/Cheney/PNAC/Neo-cons.
Ron Paul has graduated to being compared to other real candidates, money-wise. Now if he can graduate to being compared to other real candidates that aren't on life support....
Wonderful news! We need to spread the word even further! Lets not stop donating now. We have only just started this revolution!!!!!!!
I helped! It was only $25, but it was the first time I've ever
donated to anyone, much less a republicrat.
God bless you, Dr. Paul.
AdamT,
I think I found your sense of humor. You must have dropped it
before you read URKOBOLD'sFred Thompson's post.
Don't worry they are only federal reserve notes, they'll be worthless in another week or two.
I donated because I think he'd be the best President money can buy. No, wait...
Hey everyone please spread the word that states are trying to
block out independent and democrat voters by making their primaries
closed!!!!! You must be registered by October 12th in some states
now!!!
Go RON!
If the URKOBOLD made that Fred Thompson forum, he deserves accolades upon accolades. However, if it is real, then the craziness of the internet has been plumbed to the depths.
"Now if he can graduate to being compared to other real
candidates that aren't on life support...."
Well that would rule out Rudy McRompson, and Huck. He's already
leaps and bounds ahead of them.
LETS DONATE AGAIN!!
LETS NOT STOP THIS MOMENTUM... WHEN PEOPLE HEAR..PEOPLE JOIN!
AWESOME news. I'm more impressed by the news he has 5.3 million cash on hand (it's under daily updates) though, that's a HUGE war chest for the long term.
The "Fred Thompson Forum" is hands down the funniest thing I've seen this week, and that includes Paris Hilton v. David Letterman.
Cash on hand for the Paul campaign is $5,300,000.
So he burned through everything from Q2. Still that's about
$7,000,000 more than McCan't
Between ProGLib & me, I think I can state unequivocally that
the Fred Thompson Forum is not an Urkobold production.
I am curious who is behind it, though. Must be Ron Paul
supporters.
Someone needs to start a Dondero discussion there.
Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal
the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between"
Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with
the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters,
banning books like
America Deceived (book) from Amazon, stealing private lands
(Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to
investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support the $5-million dollar man, Dr. Ron Paul and save this
country.
As an aside, we must give credit where it is due, this blogger
guessed the $5 million donation number right first:

Ron Paul kicks Fred Thompson's @ss...
Googlefight proves it.

Man that is the best news I have heard ALL DAY!!!!!
LOVE YOU RON!!!
WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO KEEP YOUR POCKET BOOK FULL!!! BRING AMERICA
BACK!!!
Little know facts about Fred for all of you patriots.
-Fred's full name is Fredfurt Rothchild Thompson.
-Fred once saved a mans life by killing him.
-Fred once helped a woman give birth at 40000 feet on an airplane.
Only it was a dog in his shed.
-Fred has never once played with a doll.
-Fred has a Doctorate in Kicking Ass!
-Fred can sit so still on a couch you would think he was
dead.
-Fred beat Chuck Norris in an Arm-wraslin match. Chuck was so upset
by the loss he kicked Freds dog. Now that dog don't hunt.
-Freds bones are coated in Adamantium.
-Fred has 7 senses the other two are a sense of style and a sense
of urgency.... well ok 6 senses.
-Fred was travelling accross the atlantic and had to take the worst
crap in his life. He leaned his butt over board and dropped a duece
so large that when it hit the sea floor is caused a catastophic
earth quake. Thats how the Mariannas trench was formed.
-Fred is twice the man Guiliani is and half the man he used to
be.
I think the campaign deserves to gloat a little.. They've worked their butts off and they should be thanked for that.. Go Ron Paul!
No matter how you dress it up, it's still wasted
capital.
It's not wasted. His ability to raise this much money makes it hard
to marginalize libertarian candidates.
This is just the beginning of the donations too, the new goal is $12 million by new years, so tighten your belts. Remember, this chance doesn't come along very often so might as well go all out.
-Fred is twice the man Guiliani is and half the man he used
to be.
If Fred had an interesting gland, it would be half the size of most
men.
Well....Cut my legs off and call me shorty!
I figured this Ron Paul dude was a goner.
I have to admit, I was wrong. Looks like all of you Paulies are
getting some work done here.
You STILL have a long way to go. I don't see it happening.
I am gonna give Ron another look though.
WOW. Who'da thunk.
"-though if you're a cynic you could ask why Paul's investment
hasn't shown up in the polls"
Unless Ron Paul buys the Sean "dumb ass" Hannity news outlets of
this world, his Poll numbers never will show up. Look at the straw
polls and any campaign outing if you want to see results Mr.
Wigle.
* cackling maniacal gleeful laughter *
Gee, I'd love to see Edward drop his chalky white pearls of wisdom
about this development. It's a shame he doesn't post here
anymore.
though if you're a cynic you could ask why Paul's investment
hasn't shown up in the polls.
I don't see why you have to be a cynic to ask this - it's kind of
the obvious follow-up question to this post.
Holy shit, that's amazing! Better than my wildest dreams. Maybe there's hope for this thing after all. I think I'll make a donation today.
Dan T,
One possible answer is that 35% of 8 million is a lot less than 35%
of 50 million, so it's not like Ron Paul has spent anywhere near
the amount that Rudy McThomney have.
Fred who?

Isn't going from 0% to 4% "showing up in the polls"?
I don't see why you have to be a cynic to ask this - it's
kind of the obvious follow-up question to this post.
The mass media only cares about reporting the "interesting" news
about the horse race to win the election.
Whereas, he work of all alternative parties is to build a political
base to influence the direction of government. Winning elections is
useful for building a base, but not necessary.
Ron Paul is an unusual case at this time, because he is running
within one of the major parties but he represents a political base
that has been ostracized by that party.
He doesn't need to win the election or the nomination or even
gather a significant number of delegates at the nominating
convetion to provide a valuable service to his political base.
FRED THOMPSON DOESN'T TAKE A DUMP WITHOUT HAVING A PLAN.
HE IS FOR THE PHANTOM SUBMARINE, MUCH TO THE CHAGRIN OF GENE
HACKMAN.
NOW IT'S UP TO YOU, BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO CUT THE KID A LITTLE
SLACK BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR SOMEONE ELSE.
The polls that don't show Ron Paul are inaccurate for various
reasons but it is hard to argue with Ron's 13 straw poll
victories.

Ron Paul 2008!
My wife and I together have ponied up the $4600 maxiumum legal
donation to Ron Paul.
Anyone out there that has whined and moaned about how bad things
are in this country had better ante up.
Ron Paul CAN win if people stop using the media's proclaimation
that he has "no chance" as an excuse to do nothing.
I SEE THAT "FRANK" HAS A NEW JOB AFTER HE GOT KICKED OUT OF
"JEWS FOR JESUS" FOR MAKING ONE-TOO-MANY HAMMER JOKES.
(ALTHOUGH "MARY WITH THE CHERRY" WAS A GOODIE)
though if you're a cynic you could ask why Paul's investment
hasn't shown up in the polls.
If you're a real cynic, you'll wonder what kind of "reform"
legislation is fomenting in Congress to prevent such dark horse
candidates from raising more funds than the run-of-the-mill
frontrunners.
"VM" NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH SEVERELY. THAT IS NEARLY AS FUNNY AS
THE LAST TIME HE TRIED DRESSING UP LIKE ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND GOT
MERKIN GLUE ALL OVER THE FLOOR.
*DRAGS "VM" OFF*
Im voting for ron paul... and I I gave him 700 bucks I was saving up for a PS3 but this seams more important.. he has the youth vote..
www.ChristiansforRonPaul.com
and with the strippersforronpaul.com contingent, it would certainly
make for an entertaining nominating convention!
"GAIJIN" IS LOOKING FOR THE SAME FATE THAT HAS BEFALLEN
"VM".
ALTHOUGH THAT IS RATHER AMUSING....
And that $5 million doesn't count all the FREE campaigning he's
getting from thousands of supporters.
To put it in perspective, I run a meetup group of 19 members and we
have spent nearly $700, not counting our time. So add another $700
for our time and another $600 since we're a below-average sized
group, multiply by 950 meetup groups nationwide and you get $1.9
million.
No doubt about it, he's top tier.
"...though if you're a cynic you could ask why Paul's
investment hasn't shown up in the polls."
EXACTLY!!! Because the cynic knows the "polls" are BS!
ABC news mentions the "jaw-dropping" amount
here.
Keith, go to that Fred Thompson forum. There's some funny stuff
there.
But, hey you know, as Hannity would say: ¡¡that's just 4
spammers!!
RON PAUL 2008
Can you say momentum - he is the candidate without ANY
mainstream help. Put him on the front page, call him a frontrunner
and he would smoke the Hildabeast.
Ron Paul 2008
Very impressive.
Who needs the LP? This compaign shows it's much better to work
within the two-party system.
Thank God for Ron Paul! A true patriot!
"I take my orders from the Constitution!"
Can you say momentum - he is the candidate without ANY
mainstream help. Put him on the front page, call him a frontrunner
and he would smoke the Hildabeast.
Very true. But let's not hold our breath. A good 4th quarter is all
we can do now.
What's neat is I only donated 50 bucks and he still kicked butt...I'm thinking of increasing that.
Fantastic! Ron Paul doesn't need the polls, the polls may be helping him. The others don't see him coming and keep tearing each other apart. There is only one poll that counts, and that is election day. We can win, We must win, WE WILL WIN!
"This proves: The Truthers are out there.
Dondero, is this "#" thing something like when Prince change his

I've been seeing a lot of these around the web lately. Are these
Paul supporters trying to discredit Thompson or is this another
Romney orchestrated hit-job?
Let's hope this gets more ink and chatter in mainstream media! He is a serious contender and is gaining momentum.
I really am shocked that people still think Paul won't win with the republican base - it doesn't exist any more! The 'base' is so fragmented it can't really be called a base anymore. The 27% of people who want to go to war with everyone with brown skin are a lost cause anyways; maybe the republicans will come around to the fact that ONLY an anti-war candidate can win this election.
"maybe the republicans will come around to the fact that ONLY an
anti-war candidate can win this election."
A pig just flew through my office......
"Very impressive. Who needs the LP? This compaign shows it's
much better to work within the two-party system."
Actually, this campaign shows just how difficult, and what a level
of financial and time committment is required to elect libertarian
candidates within the two-party system.
$12million by new years? That's ambitious. I hope we can get it done. I'll match my Q3 donation, but not much more. Mostly I hope all this filthy lucre is BiCRA kosher.
Why has Ron Paul not yet moved up in the polls?
Simple. Most Republican primary voters are still waiting to learn
his last name. They are not the sharpest pencils in the drawer.
Time to max out my contributions in Q4!
Ditto!
I've already donated to the campaign 3 times, but I'll definitely
increase my contribution in the next quarter.
JLM, apologies for the pig. I'm sure Ron Paul can spot you for
the damages out of his FAT WAD OF CASH.
hehe.
Fred Thompson? You mean the ideas Dr. Paul has been touting for oh 30+ years? Look at Fred's voting record in the Senate, he's chameleon if I ever saw one.
Why has Ron Paul not yet moved up in the polls?
1) Well, he has, actually. He is polling double or triple (yes, of
a small amount) that he was a few months ago. But more
importantly,
2) He is espousing an uncompromising libertarian message. I you
haven't noticed, Reason is not among the top circulation magazines,
either. I do not ridicule you for this, in fact I appreciate
it.
Ditto for Ron's efforts.
As they say, the Republicans and the Democrats are two wings of
the same bird of prey. Guess who's the prey ...
Time for a presidential candidate to shoot that vulture out of the
sky and bring back our rights. Paul raised $5 million because there
are still Americans who love peace and freedom and aren't fooled by
the disguises the frontrunners of both parties wear.
You can also contribute by purchasing stuff from his campaign website. I put a couple of signs in my front yard that I purchased from ronpaul2008.com
DONDEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I am changing my voter affiliation so that I can vote for RP in
the primary next year.
In NJ it is claimed that you can do this at the polls, but seeing
as it *IS* NJ, I would not garantee that they will let you. So I am
going to file an official declaration now.
http://www.state.nj.us/lps/elections/faq_voter_doe.html#a1
May I suggest to all you folks that are not registered to a party,
who want to vote RP in the primary, to check your state laws
*NOW*.
It is October and some primaries start very early next year. In NJ
you have to declare 50 days ahead or take a chance at the
polls.
This site shows primary information for all states. I recently
figured out that in my state, independents can vote in either
primary. I'm quite happy that I don't have to hold my nose and
register republican.
http://www.primarilypaul.com/ron-paul-in-the-primaries
Made it to the main CNN politics page:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/10/03/pauls-fundraising-shock/
...for about 20 minutes before being bumped down for "Capital
building Fires"
At least the exposure is worth the money itself.
JLM : "I'm quite happy that I don't have to hold my nose and
register republican."
Yeah, I am going to have to fill out two forms. One to declare
republican for the primary, another to undeclare after.
P.I.T.A.
Get the word out - establishment is changing the rules in an attempt to eliminate Ron Paul - take no chances - get out and register as a REPUBLICAN (nasty) in your state to vote for Ron Paul. They're now making it so that you MUST be registered Republican (as where before they were open primaries to anyone). You only have a few weeks in NH and then you won't be able to vote for Dr. Paul.
I think I'm going to record this in a Jimmy Durante-voice to a
Dixieland beat. Maybe even put it to a Youtube video.
Ron Paul for President
What he says is what he means
Ron Paul for President
He'll sweep this country clean
He'll kick out the old UN
And keep us out of wars
The income tax will see an end
And we'll legalize drugs and whores!
No more bailouts of the banks
He'll give your tax money back to you
So you can buy a Sherman tank
Or build a castle too!
Ron Paul for President
He's real nice, not mean
Ron Paul for President
He'll swee-eep this count-ry clean!
This news made my day! It makes it worth it that I went into further debt to support Dr. Paul :)

OCTOBER 12, 2007 NEW YORK RESIDENTS CUTOFF. YOU MUST BE A

CNN/Wolf Blitzer about to run a little blurbs on Paul's booty. Looks like the focus is on McCain though.
D. Greene...
think of it as an investment. when he gets the presidency you'll
have your money right back.
Washington State Rules:
http://www.secstate.wa.gov/elections/pdf/2006/Pick-a-Party_FAQ.pdf
"Do I need to register with a party to get a ballot?
No. Washington's voter registration laws do not allow voters to
register by party."
I think I'm covered. I'd better be.
"CNN/Wolf Blitzer about to run a little blurbs on Paul's
booty."
Ooo! A Blitzer Booty call!
I am changing my voter affiliation so that I can vote for RP in the primary next year.
Welcome aboard; I just did the same thing, in an effort to help
exterminate the question "Who's Ron Paul?"
sage,
I doublechecked WA election rules. I think you are wrong. Look at
the FAQs a few lines above the quoted one. You need party
affiliation to vote in the primary.
I'm surprised he's so well liked here. His stances on
Immigration and Social Security are opposite most people on this
blog. Personally, I agree with his immigration view, but I'm
definitely in the minority on that one.
His Social Security view (that we shouldn't raise eligibility
age(s)) is totally wrong, though, and will eventually wipe out the
budget. If people want to retire by age 62/65 (or 62/67 for my
generation), they should pay for it themselves. I think the
eligibility age should be slowly increased till, eventually, we as
a nation are weined off it.
Nevertheless, I still like him better than any of the other
candidates.
"His Social Security view (that we shouldn't raise eligibility

It's also totally practical since attacking current beneficiaries
of SS is political suicide.
He wants to phase it out but he wants to do it with the young
people and not those currently dependent on it.
Makes perfect political sense to me.
I think its not so much as he is so well liked because we(libertarians) agree with his views 100%, but that we have a canidate in a republican primary that comes so close to what we like. I may be an anarcho-capitalist, but I'd be an idiot not to vote for this paelo-conservative over the rest of the pack.
Money talks.
First they ignore you ==> check
Then they laugh at you ==> check
Then they fight you ==> coming soon...
Then you win ==> TBD
I guess I'm one of those who's a little concerned that the campaign spent $2 million in the last quarter and doesn't have a lot to show for it. I understand that they could just be investing for the long term. Still, are they running adds in the "early" primary states? What are they doing with the money?
Here's why Ron Paul hasn't shown up yet in the "scientific"
polls. They're rigged:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Rasmussen_Polls_Rigged_against_Ron_Paul_unbelievable
sage,
Doublechecked my double-check and wound up more confused. I think
the best advice for everyone is to speak directly to your election
officials right away to see what is required AND BY WHEN to vote in
the Republican Primary. All the money in the world won't help Ron
Paul if he can't get a significant number of the crossover voters
to switch to the Republican party. Ya gotta dance wit da girl he
brought.
The campaign has plenty to show for it - they've opened HQs in a few new states other than NH and Iowa (including a big office in Arlington, VA), started purchasing TV and radio ads, and totally revamped their organization. So it's not like the money has just disappeared or anything.
Soooo glad MO has open primaries.
Click on your state and find out
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/paag.phtml
I'm a registered Republican in Florida, but when I checked on my registration (I moved last June) they had me listed as inactive. Inactive!! I voted last election. And the one before that. . .and so on. Perhaps voting Libertarian too often counts as "inactive" ☺
"May I suggest to all you folks that are not registered to a

Doesn't matter. Most Paul supporters will be home with the bong
muttering about fire not melting steel
I guess I'm one of those who's a little concerned that the
campaign spent $2 million in the last quarter and doesn't have a
lot to show for it.
What the hell are you talking about?? They've got $5,000,000 to
show for it. If this quarter goes as well, they can burn through
that and they'll have their $12,000,000 heading into the
primaries.
Doesn't matter. Most Paul supporters will be home with the
bong muttering about fire not melting steel
This 50-year old grandfather will be trudging out in some blizzard
come Janauar and participating in his first caucus.
Thanks, Randolph. It's not that I thought they were pulling a Badnarik or anything; it's just that I live in a state where they've done jack. So I can't really see what they're doing. But we're holding our own doing grassroots here.
Funny how you never hear that Ron Paul refuses to be owned by any corporations or any other special interest's by not accepting any money from them. I would love to see a chart comparing how much $ the so called top tier get from personal donations as apposed to Paul.
Warren, I know raising money to raise money is the main thing, but I'm also wondering about when they'll be running ads or what other types of things they're doing. It doesn't matter how much they "burn" through if the money doesn't get turned into votes at some point.
You need party affiliation to vote in the
primary.
True, but you do this when you get the ballot (I believe we are now
an all vote-by-mail state). You simply cast your votes for the
candidates for the party you select. But if you vote for someone in
the Repubs and someone from the Dems, your vote
will be invalidated.
This whole issue is being heard in the SCOTUS even as we
speak.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/333906_scotusvoting02.html
I see a lot of RP signs, bumper stickers, etc. around town. More than any other current 08 candidate (of either party). This is Texas, and ancedotal, but still.
It doesn't matter how much they "burn" through if the money
doesn't get turned into votes at some point.
True that, but it's way to early to attempt that now. We're in the
building phase. Putting together an organization and filling the
war chest.
The "vote for me" ads shouldn't be run until days or even hours
before the election. Of course what we really need is beyond our
control. MSM coverage, i.e. free publicity. Total catch 22, no MSM
until you get poll numbers, People won't vote for non frontrunners.
That is why this is so huge. Big piles of cash get attention even
without the poll numbers. Large turnouts at rallies also shore up
hie legitimacy.
Same here -- I live in a little town in Oklahoma, and pretty much the whole place is covered in RP signs. Including the back of both of my cars.
Man,
I just filled out a form for the NYS Board of Elections declaring
myself a Republican.
*hurls*
I'd rather sacrifice by donating money to Paul than committing this
act of unspeakable atrocity!
It's also totally practical since attacking current
beneficiaries of SS is political suicide.
...
Makes perfect political sense to me.
Granted.
He wants to phase it out but he wants to do it with the young
people and not those currently dependent on it.
Good to know. I hope it's true. He's got my vote regardless, but it
would be nice to know there's one more thing we agree upon.
Reinmoose | October 3, 2007, 5:11pm | #
Man,
I just filled out a form for the NYS Board of Elections declaring
myself a Republican.
*hurls*
Me too. I've been a democrat for 22 years but I really want Dr.
Paul to win the New York Republican primary instead of Rudy.
Sean Hannity will dismiss it by saying the same three Ron Paul internet geeks are charging their credit card 5,000 times.
NY Voter -
that's a big shift for you. I was previously unafiliated.
My mother would be proud. I'm not telling my friends yet...
If you listen carefully, you can hear the entire city of Washington crapping itself.
Someone please assure me that a Ron Paul bumper-sticker means nothing to a cop.
Count me in as both -- RP already has his money, and I will hurl and dry heave after registering as an Oklahoma Republican next week.
Yeah, that's it. Keep telling yourselves over and over that Paul
has a chance.
Fucking fools.
Someone please assure me that a Ron Paul bumper-sticker
means nothing to a cop.
chickenshit motorist,
I was thinking about this myself. I would guess that if it means
anything to a cop, it would mean that the cop should not try to
pull any funny business with the motorist, because a Ron Paul
supporter is much more liable to know his own rights than an
average citizen.
smacky, that's a nice twist; do you think a CRUSH POLICE
BRUTALITY! sticker would work as well?
I fear (see my handle) that Mister Cop is likely to know, and feel,
about RP only negatively impactful stuff.
Edward-Didn't you leave forever? You said you were going to...repeatedly. Why are you here, Edward, after you said over and over that you were going to leave?
Aside from the many and varied reasons I'd like to see Dr. Paul win the Republican nomination, watching that smug a**hat Hannity do a complete 180 will be great.
chickenshit motorist:
despite all the thugs working as policemen, i still think a large
chunk of them really are good people working within a corrupt
system. RP will appeal to them. look at LEAP.org - a small
organization now, but growing and obviously both practically and
morally correct.
remember, RP gets almost ~50% of the total campaign donations from
ex-military personnel. a lot of cops are likely to be of a similar
mindset.
I don't get the point of folks who say "you fools your candidate has no chance." We are talking about a PRIMARY here. It doesn't hurt anyone to use their vote symbolically. Jesus.
Yeah that's it Edward, keep telling us we're fools. You are
showing a real commitment to your cause. No matter how much the
PAUL '08 campaign blows up, you stick to your guns. Even if Ron
Paul is elected POTUS you can sleep well knowing you did your part
to discourage his supporters.
Fucking asshat.
Hi, smacky! We needed a translation the other day, but you were
not to be found. Anyway, I think a Paul sticker might also
correlate highly with gun ownership. For whatever that's
worth.
A couple of comments on some statements up thread:
1) I've seen lots of Paul signs and stickers around the Tampa area
(both sides of the Bay) and have seen hardly any for any other
candidates. In fact, on my drive home across one of the causeways,
I see people holding signs about once a month. Yeah, that's showing
a dedicated crop of supporters more than a huge outswelling of
support, but it's not chickenfeed, either.
2) I've noted that the Paul camp is catching some of the
fruitcakes--Truthers, North American Unionists, etc.--but that
hardly means that we're all that way. I certainly don't buy into
such lunacy, nor do any of the Paul supporters that I know
personally. Wait, except for one of my friends who has gone insane.
Forgot about him. He believes pretty much all the crazy theories
these days and, unfortunately, is loudly supporting Paul. In any
case, I support Paul because I think it is critical that we begin
to dramatically reduce the scope and reach of government. He's the
only candidate promising to do anything in that direction. Win or
lose, that idea must be fostered and promoted. He's not perfect,
but he's a 100X better than the next best option.
My default position is that any post at H&R signed Edward these days isn't by Edward, and that those who respond are, I believe, talking only to the rest of us, with a slim chance that Edward is reading them too. Yes, he did continue to post after announcing his retirement, but I don't think for long. So either you guys are more sophisticated at detecting the real Edward, or by some miracle I am in this instance more justifiedly skeptical than you-all. Not that it always matters, because your responses are often very funny, whether addressed to holograms or not.
In the military town where I live, our Ron Paul Meetup Group is full of airmen from the Air Force base nearby, as well as from the Naval Air Station. Ron Paul is the candidate who gets more campaign contributions from the military than any other candidate. Apparently they want this endless war to end, too. And most cops are usually vets, so there is a lot of Paul support among them. I just got back from a long trip through Florida, Georgia, Alabama and SC, and received many a horn honk and thumbs-up for my Ron Paul bumpersticker. In fact, my city is covered with Ron Paul signs; many of which I held the ladder for ...
It's too bad Edward never posts here anymore -- I'd love to get his reaction to this.

RP has raised more money from US soldiers than any other
candidate!
Ron Paul is our only hope! Please find every available dollar you can share and make the investment. Ron Paul will pay you back when he kills the IRS. This country will follow the winner, but we need to collectively create the momentum, and money talks. Polls don't mean anything because they don't call cell phones and many of us depend on them as our only number. Spread the word and you'll sleep better at night knowing that you are making the world better. Register Republican and VOTE IN THE PRIMARY!
THAT IS NEARLY AS FUNNY AS THE LAST TIME [VM] TRIED DRESSING
UP LIKE ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND GOT MERKIN GLUE ALL OVER THE
FLOOR.
Wow. That's
you, VM?
iih,
you thin that news item would get more play, especially among
democrats who say the troops are against the war. BUT WAIT! the
democrats aren't really against the war either.
Randolph Carter:
I came to that conclusion a long time ago.
By the way, I saw on the dailypaul.com website that something you
said on reason was quoted as the best quote reported on blogs and
in the media. I am trying to find it again but with no avail. It
was a thread reporting coverage of Paul in the media.
If Ron Paul wins the Republican primary, Hannity and the rest of the corporatist warfare state media will pull a 180...on Hillary Clinton.
The "the corporatist warfare state media" probably prefers HRC over RP. Not a single comment of Fox News regarding Paul's numbers. HuffPost reported it (and there is a good reason why left media would like to highlight Paul).
I gave cuz Ron Paul is the best candidate money can't buy and what's more, he wants to make it so the government has no favors to sell.
M,
Sure, I'm hep to what you meant. And you said it with humor too.
Very nice.
But yes, it was definitely your comment that gave me the idea for
mine. You kinda launched a meme, M.
I got as big a laugh from you Democrats holding your noses to
register Republican as I did from sage's Fred stuff. Props to you
guys.
If it makes you feel any better, I crossed party lines in 2006
after voting 30 years as a Republican. This was to punish RINO Mike
DeWine for shamelessly shilling for illegal immigration. This was
immensely satisfying.
At this point, having honest representatives trying to do the right
thing is more important than party affiliation.
On that Google fight thingy, Ron Paul beats buddha, yahweh, ghandi and mohammad COMBINED!
Once we get a little closer to the primaries Dr. Paul needs to
run some ads with military personel talking about why they back him
and also saying that more military personel back him than any other
candidate.
He also needs to run some adds that show the corporate/special
interest backing of the other candidates compared to his
non-exisent corporate/special interest backing.

Yes.

interest backing of the other candidates compared to his
non-exisent corporate/special interest backing.
No. It may be honest to say so, but may not serve him amongst the
republican base. Mentioning "corporate/special interest" sounds
terribly close to left leaning whining about big corporations and
their influence on Republican governments.
And let's not mention Ron Paul's vote on the Bankruptcy "Reform"
Act of 2005. How's that for rejecting the special interests?
"Ron Paul means Freedom" ... if you're a white, Christian,
heterosexual male. Amazing how quickly this place got flooded with
Paulites claiming him to be better than JESUS TIMES BUDDHA TO THE
GHANDI POWER.
I can't believe we are actually discusing Rep. Ron Paul and his
Paulestinians.
Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets it. He
makes decisions based on principles. Principles don't change. You
have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the
polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all
of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his
principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.
I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani
is the candidate. He does not represent our values as
Conservatives, and never will. Mitt Romney is a RINO (though a very
nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. "I
guess I'll just try to buy the presidency". Conservatives will
simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in
the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to
completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?
However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that's
even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor.
Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last
rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring
his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength
back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and
family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a
Conservative, he will win!
Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House?
Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a
party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of
our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the
House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraq-they know it. The best
they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like
they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat.
History repeats itself when not learned from.
Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men
and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we
must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred
Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back
together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal
is liberal every day of the week.
Really tick off the leftist democrats and contribute to Fred
Thompson:

I agree with everything that Alan said. So we all need to vote
for Ron Paul.
He's is the only one that can go up against Hillary or Obama and
win.
"I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this
party and nation back together!"
Huh?
MSM update: They mentioned Ron Paul and the fact that he beat McCain with his $5MM on the Today show. Russert also said something to the effect of "there is still a place for a Libertarian Republican" and mentioned that he could "get on the air" in Iowa & NH.
Senator Fred Thompson is the only major candidate that gets
it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don't
change.
At first I thought this was sarcasm, because it's so trite and
absurd. Thompson is a Washington insider who has worked as a paid
*lobbyist*, for crying out loud. That means shilling for the
highest bidder. He cashed out his principles, if he ever had any to
begin with.
Alan,
From what I've read about Fred, he'd get taken to the woodshed by
Hillary or Obama. His positions not withstanding, he's a boring,
unenergetic speaker who doesn't like to go out and shake hands and
make smalltalk and who's only saving grace is that he looks good on
paper. Unless something about his changes, I think after the
October 9th debate, you'll see his poll numbers drop (probably to
the gain of McCain). The man is just not presidential. Say what you
want about Mr. Paul, but he shows alot more energy and interest in
the position than Mr. Thompson and is just as qualified.
The AP article (linked by Drudge) is surprisingly astute (in
that it isn't filled with errors as per usual). It accurately and
fairly characterizes Rep. Paul's positions.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071003/D8S227LO0.html
Alan, buddy
There is no man running in the field who represents conservative
values better than Dr. Paul.
And you post reads like a collage of 6 months worth of articles
from FOX NEWS.
You were joking, weren't you?
From a conservative/independent who loathes all dittoheads Ron Paul exposes the mendacity and pandering running like sewage out of the mainstream Republican candidates. I love the Libertarian platform and wonder how Republican party became big government liberal types promoting and protecting corporate welfare.
"I love the Libertarian platform and wonder how Republican party
became big government liberal types promoting and protecting
corporate welfare."
The influx of neoconservatives.
Ron Paul's numbers are low because so many people have never heard of him and MSM plans to keep it that way. Ron Paul could be 15 percent in the polls and MSM would maintain their blackout unless they thought attacks worked better.
I wouldn't be surprised if the other Republicans were paying the mainstream media under the table to keep quiet about Ron Paul. I really wouldn't be.
Before any registered LP voters change their party affiliation
to GOP, check with the county registrar about ballot access
requirements. Number of party registrants often figures into the
calculus as to whether a third party gets "official ballot status"
or not. In some cases, having enough registered party members can
save the party from having to spend money and effort circulating
petitions to put candidates on the ballot.
There aren't enough registered Libertarian voters to hurt Dr. Paul
if they all didn't get to vote for him in the primaries. There
aren't enough registered Libertarian voters to push Dr. Paul over
the edge except in the closest of close races. On the other hand,
if the LP loses ballot status in one or more states because of
primary defections, that would be a major setback, which would be
doubly bad in the case that Ron Paul disappears after the
primaries.
Democrats and Independents, feel free to register as GOP
temporarily to help Dr. Paul. But LP voters, please do your
homework before switching your affiliation. You could potentially
harm the cause (and hundreds of other LP candidates in future
elections) more than you help Dr. Paul this time.
Ron Paul's numbers are low because so many people have never
heard of him and MSM plans to keep it that way.
That's funny, because I've been seeing his fundraising numbers all
over the media.
The TV nooz - I forget which one - last night reported the
fundrasing numbers, and Paul was the lead. They used the phrase,
"Once dismissed as a fringe candidate..." which is notable both for
the implication that he is no longer so dismissed, and the use of
the passive voice.
Paul's fundraising was also the headline on Page 2 of today's
Boston Globe.
