Great catch by the
American Mind blog:
Did CPAC toss Ann Coulter's gay slur towards John Edwards down the memory hole? For only $100 you can have the "Best of CPAC 2007," a six-DVD set of speakers and panels from this year's conservative confab... Noticably missing is Ann Coulter.
Among the stuff ranked better than Coulter by a panel of druids and former POWs:
- Terrorism: Is Religious Extremism or Secular Extremism the Problem? a lively debate featuring Dinesh D'Souza and Robert Spencer
- Conservative Solutions for Urban America, featuring Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, John McWhorter, Niger Innis and more
- Balancing Individual Rights and National Security, a timely debate featuring Rep. Bob Barr and Professor John Yoo
Let the revisionism train roll on! In six months, Fox News will be reporting that there never was a leggy, gay-bashing blonde pundit and that "Ann Coulter" was actually one of Kurt Vonnegut's pen names.

Five Friday Fun Points to the first commenter to guess what Dave's post would look like if the collection had included Coulter's speech.
There's a fairly large difference between not including something on a "Best Of" disc and flatly saying something never happened.
DVD without Coulter ==> CPAC is Evil Revisionist(tm)!
DVD with Coulter ==> CPAC is Evil Homophobe(tm)!
p.s. What do druids have to do with this?
I'm listening to a audio course on linguistics by John McWhorter during my commute lately. So far, I like it fine.
Or rather:
I boughten a linguistics course from that McWhorter dude. I likes
it good.
"DVD without Coulter ==> CPAC is Evil Revisionist(tm)!
DVD with Coulter ==> CPAC is Evil Homophobe(tm)!"
Yep, that sounds about right.
I agree - including that little bit of ugliness on a "Best-of" DVD would be like including the William Shatner version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" on a Beatles best-of. It's not a "great catch", it's a stretch.
I wouldn't have blogged about a DVD with Coulter, as her speech was the best-attended of the entire conference and its inclusion would have made sense.
Say, now that you mention it, what is Bob Barr up to these
days?
about 5'6" with his lifter heels.
Bob Barr is actually kinda starting to sound like a libertarian. If he'll say he no longer opposes gay marriage, he'll stop deserving the bitchin' and skepticism he's been getting so far.
David Weigel,
So, because the Cubs have one of the highest attendance figures in
Major League Baseball every year, they are one of the best
teams?
I'm not a journalism major, I'm just a guy, but I didn't think
"best" == "best-attended".
The last three comments were all obviously made by the same
conservative troll.
They're no more trollish than Weigel's post. If the McCain's
campaign doesn't include footage of him walking through that
Baghdad market with the flak-jacket on, does that mean they're
engaging in revisionist history? If I'm at a job interview and I
don't bring up the story of the time I peed in the umbrella holder
when I was 5, is that revisionist history?
In six months, Fox News will be reporting that ... "Ann
Coulter" was actually one of Kurt Vonnegut's pen names.
So does that make "Don Imus" a pen name of Tom Robbins, or a screen
name of Robert Altman?
David, it's no real mystery why she wouldn't have been included
in the 'best of', is it?
By the way, the best line I heard, besides Coulter saying 'maybe we
should put solar panels on Al Gore' (now THAT'S funny), was when
Tancredo said, 'We need strong leadership because our enemies are
terrorists and our allies are the French.'
I read McWhorter's book, Losing the Race. It was interesting.
Had an email discussion with him about it. Nice guy.

How does John Yoo balance individual rights and national security? With a machine gun!
I'm not a journalism major, I'm just a guy, but I didn't
think "best" == "best-attended".
When you're trying to sell a DVD set, it does.
Seeing that Ann Coulter Barbie made me think: when is Reason going to come out with a Nick Gillespie doll? Complete with cartoonist's pen, dark glasses and genuine leather jacket. Should be at least as popular as those Reason panties that were for sale here last year.
"Should be at least as popular as those Reason panties that were
for sale here last year."
I don't know about those, but I'm still satisfied with my
inflatable Reason Pillow Girl. I do go through a lot of Fix-a-Flat,
though.
If that's really an Ann Coulter doll, the makers left off the little Adam's apple.
Another great catch. Coulter fans will be appalled. Coulter haters will say she deserves this and worse. The rest of us, well, we just shake our heads. Link not for people with refined sensibilities or the pre-pubescent crowd.
By "leggy", do you mean that she has legs? Because that would be true. If you mean "attractive" I'll have to protest. She looks like a stretched-out and bleached Jeff Conaway.
