Medicinal marijuana isn't just for human beings anymore. Meet the California company that sells therapeutic pet treats.

Julianna Carella started Treatibles in 2013. She had been selling medicinal marijuana edibles for people since 2008 through her other business, Auntie Dolores. Treatibles makes gluten-free, vegan dog biscuits that contain cannabidiol but not THC. That means the treats can have calming effects and relieve pain without getting dogs high.

Carella claims her products can help control symptoms for a wide variety of conditions, including separation anxiety, hip dysplasia, arthritis, limited mobility, pain, aging, epilepsy, and cancer.

Heidi Hill sells Treatibles in her Berkeley store, Holistic Hound. "We've had a tremendous amount of feedback from customers," she says. "From it being a subtle change to very, very dramatic."

You don't need a vet's permission to buy the treats, and Treatibles can ship to states where medicinal marijuana is still illegal for human beings. The company hopes to launch cat-specific products later this year, to expand its offerings for dogs, and to develop treats for horses and other farm animals.
