    If Obama were to wear a military uniform, I am pretty certain he'd give himself six stars.

  • ||

    Upon further reflection, I'm still stumped as to who is being portrayed in the caption. Based on the alignment of the stars on the flag, this would be a president running when we had 48 states.*

    *it may be Obama after all, but I cannot confirm it because google search does not give me an image of the flag with 57 stars on it.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    It's a Patton reference, ergo the star alignment is appropriate. Overall, this is a pretty good cartoon. B+. A-, even.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Although your 57-star remark is pretty darn good as well.

  • junior||

    I thought it was the guy from the dirty dozen

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    He does look kind of like Lee Marvin there.

  • George V||

    Thank you junior and Art-POG.

  • ||

    does this mean that joe biden is montgomery or bradley?

  • newshutz||

    Sgt Schultz

  • Karl||

    Field Marshall Douglas Haig

    different war but the only place to go if you wish to find an adequate level of incompetence.

  • Colonel_Angus||

    Terrible movie. They ruined the concept by making it a cartoonish comedy that wasn't that funny. If it was a serious movie it could have been badass for its time.

  • ||

    i smell a re-make...

  • Tim Burton||

    Oops. Sorry. That was me.

  • ||

    I think that you're giving Bok credit for being more intelligent than he actually is. Besides, rule 92-A informs us that Friday "Funnies" can only be enjoyed ironically or accidentally.

    It's right there in the H&R bylaws.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    I think an appropriate alternate voice bubble from the first panel would be: "This ain't rock 'n roll. This is genocide!"

  • ||

    Excellent. Halloween Jack is a real cool cat, after all.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Anachronistically, I always insist Bowie was talking about Jack Skellington in that song.

  • ||

    If anyone can see into the future in order to anticipate the baby-goth movement, it's Bowie.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    You are absolutely correct on that count.

  • Scooby||

    See this for your 57 star flag.

  • Suki||

  • ||

    But you've got to admit the LADIES love a man in uniform.

  • Karl||

    No that one gold star represents his grade point average at the Harvard Remedial Law School for really well connected rich parents with really stupid kids who need semi-legitimate papers so the kids stop living at home with mom and dad. (or Grandma and Grampa as the case may be)

  • Karl||

    sorry by Grandma and Grandpa I meant to say typical white grandma and grandpa.

  • ||

    His right leg looks like Africa.

  • Bob||

    Both legs kinda look like fried chicken, so definitely raaaaacist.

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    Hey, Caucasian Obama, do you have two more comically oversized ears in your pockets or are just happy to see me?

  • ||

    It's really Roberto Luongo. He's hiding from shame in that silly disguise.

  • Fist of Etiquette||

    It's not his fault. You know how unstoppable Geno is in the shoot-oot.

  • rather||

    Cute, he's wearing his Nobel Peace Prize medal on one side only

  • Terr||

  • My Poor Screen||

    Must you?

  • $6M RoboTorso||

    I've lost my will to live.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Have I lowered my standards?Occasionally, I give the Friday Funnies decent marks. This is one of those times.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Space bars. How do they work?

  • Colonel_Angus||

    You need some kind of vacuum sealed containers or tube system.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Bwah ha, ha! True. Also a cantina band with Max Rebo.

  • ||

    See, I'm sure that Bok meant to draw a riding crop in Obama's hand, but it looks like a poorly rendered golf club, which would be apropos for our link-happy commander in chief. Bok treads to lightly on the surface of things to make that kind of connection though.

    Bok's high marks are like those for a kid who randomly fills out a multiple choice test and gets the answers right; sure it's an 'A' but he doesn't know why it's an 'A".

    In conclusion, Chip Bok is probably the worst person to attempt an artistic career since that German guy in the '20s.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    In Bok's defense, it's a pretty tough format. He has to do a lot of work over a short period of time, and I'm certain he doesn't have the help of a writing team or research team.

  • Germany||

  • ||

    Him too!

  • Austria||

    G'day, mate!

  • Hmm||

    His pose in the second dram looks very hitler like. Are you inciting violence?

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    You know who else looked very Hitler-like?

  • hmm ||

  • Ska||

    Bruno Ganz?

  • sarcasmic||

    Your mom?

  • Jeff||

  • toddb||

    Anthony Hopkins (playing Hitler)?

  • ||

    Mel Brooks?

  • George V||

    Jack Benny

  • guy in the back row||

    Hitler's political decoys?

  • Fluffy||

    This looks like Obama went through The Fly Transporter with Reagan's corpse.

  • ||

    And relieving taxpayers of their burden doesn't qualify as class warfare, really.

    If Obama wanted less people to pay taxes I think we'd all be on board.

  • Bob||

    Not if the non-payers are still on the govt. teat.

  • ||

    So it's better for people to pay taxes to support those that don't than for the tax payers to be relieved of their burden?

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    It's better than the deficit growing even larger, I suppose. Not that it matters much because the deficit will keep growing anyway.

  • ||

    if bok is going to use a visual with a patton reference then he should have him saying " get the other bastard to PAY for his over-grown government!"

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    Not bad at all.

  • BigT||

    Hahaha! Nice

  • ||

    Comrade Marshal Obama!? -- maybe he would prefer the uniform of the zampolit. The chart is bitchin too, but tax v. nontax payer? Nyet! Enemy-of-the-people v. worker hero!

  • ||

    Bok, I think you suck.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    C'mon. This cartoon rocks. Alles klar, Herr Kommissar?

  • ||

    Why doesn't Reason offer a full-fledged Facebook sharing link rather than a mere Like?

  • Trespassers W||

    I lol'd srsly.

  • Tim||

    I don't get it.

  • Xenocles||

    White Obama looks a lot like W.

  • Bee Tagger||

    Will you in the media drop the Al Gore "fuzzy math" thing already? That was like 11 years ago!

  • Warty||

    I actually liked this one. I didn't think that was possible.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    In the off chance the Friday Funny is actually decent, it was probably Bok's work instead of Payne's.

    Well done, Bok.

  • ||

    I just don't get it. Are we supposed to not like Obama because he wants to lower taxes now?

    This cartoon could be in my local paper and the guy in uniform could be Rick Perry. True story.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    I saw this whole subtext in my mind of more people being nonpayers because they were underemployed or unemployed (with growing welfare apparatus), while the tax burden on those who still earned was increased.

    I also saw those 'smiles' of the nonpayers as ironic, because they were really quite impoverished. Maybe I over- or under- thought this cartoon.

  • ||

    Since over-thinking isn't even an option, that leaves you with one option.

    No tag backs!

    [runs and hides from scathing retort]

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    :::Shakes fist at sky while camera pans back dramatically:::

  • k2000k||

    Maybe those smiles are the illustrative illusion of Obama thinking. The rich are frowning because they now they are evil rich and SO desperately want Obama to steal their money. While the poor are happy because they aren't greedy and are fully in the loving (soul crushing) embrace the welfare machine.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    This is also a good interpretation in my opinion.

  • Almanian||

    1) Why has Bok portrayed Omar Bradley as George Patton? Is this some kind of meta on the barely-sub-rosa tension between the two, and, never mind.

    2) Needs moar labels.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    One of these days, Bok is going to snap and 65% of the panel will be taken up by labels (POTUS dressed as Patton, riding crop reminiscent of golf club, etc.). It will be glorious.

  • Patton ||

    Bok, you magnificient bastard I read your cartoon!

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

  • kilroy||

    I kinda liked it. Solid B.

  • The Art-P.O.G.||

    It's pretty good, which is why I guess there aren't very many comments.

  • ||

    White Obama looks a lot like W.

    Now we're getting somewhere.
