Rhode Island Mayor Bringing in State Police to Investigate Parking Ticket Scandal

Dismissed 128 tickets, offering refunds to others; police to give warnings not citations for illegal parking

Mayor Allan W. Fung announced Thursday that the state police will take over the investigation of the parking ticket scandal, primarily because of "new allegations" that have surfaced.

He said that a number of police officers are under suspicion of misconduct.

And he said that he would dismiss 128 tickets that are at the center of the scandal and order refunds to anyone ticketed who had already paid. People who parked illegally would be given warnings instead.
