Judge Sets Quick Pace for Detroit Bankruptcy Hearings

Sets mid-August deadline for all motions against bankruptcy declaration

DETROIT — A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge set key dates Tuesday in Detroit's case that indicate his intention to accelerate the process.

In a notice filed Tuesday, Judge Steven Rhodes proposed an Aug. 19 deadline for all motions arguing against Detroit's eligibility for Chapter 9 bankruptcy. A trial on that question would begin Oct. 23.
