College Fires Teacher Who Demanded Students Vote for Obama

MELBOURNE, FL — An algebra instructor at Brevard Community College has been fired after an investigation by college officials found that she urged -- and forced in some cases -- students to sign pledge cards promising to vote for President Barack Obama in November.

Associate Professor Sharon will have the ability to appeal the decision through arbitration or to request an appeal hearing.

A motion to terminate passed 3-1; Steve Charpentier voted against. He said that he felt her actions warranted punishment, but not termination.

I mean, it's not like she forced them to sign pledge cards promising to vote for Romney or anything.

It reminds of the scene in Anchorman when Harken had to fire Burgundy after telling San Diego to go fuck itself. "This is bad..." En voulant dire, he had no choice. Wonder if the whispers were, "yeah, you're right but you can't do that!"

Has Ken from Popehat heard about this? This is a blatant violation of her First Amendment rights.

I've always thought pledge made under force, or threat thereof, was null and void from the beginning, but then that's just what I think to myself. (I mean not that I have a legal or religious reasoning behind this view.)
