Officer Pleads ‘No Contest’ After Shooting Ex-Wife

Some 20 months after the fatal public shooting of his ex-wife on Memorial Day 2011 -- and just two weeks before he was scheduled to go to trial on a first-degree murder charge -- former Franklin County sheriff’s deputy Jonathan Ashley Agee has pleaded no contest to first-degree murder in her death.

Agee, 33, entered the plea this afternoon in Roanoke Circuit Court. He also pleaded no contest to charges of using a gun to commit a murder.

Judge Charlie Dorsey has not set a date for a pre-sentence hearing in the case. First-degree murder carries a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.
