Venezuela's parliament has postponed indefinitely the inauguration of ailing President Hugo Chavez for another six-year term in office.

Chavez, who has been in power since 1999, was to be sworn in on January 10 before parliament.

The pro-Chavez majority in the National Assembly accepted a request that the president, who is battling cancer in Cuba, be sworn in at a later date before the Supreme Court.
