2012 Record-Breaking Year For Federal Anti-Trust Penalties

Fines reached $1.13 billion

The federal government fined businesses a record amount in criminal antitrust penalties over the 2012 fiscal year, according to data compiled by a law firm, provided exclusively to FOX Business. 

The Department of Justice's Antitrust Division handed out more than $1.13 billion in criminal fines, a 46% increase over 2011, said John Terzaken, partner at Allen & Overy and the former director of criminal enforcement.
