A letter from the Bloomfield Board of Health Attorney read at last night's council meeting accused the council of "overstepping its boundaries" by passing a resolution last Monday to settle a lawsuit to allow Memphis to go to Jeff and Diana Coltenback.

The Lexus Project, an organization that provides legal defense for dogs, had filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Coltenbacks and Memphis in early September against the township, Bloomfield Health Department, Acting Director Karen Lore, and the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, alleging they were not acting in the dog's best interests.
