Illinois House Ejects Representative for Bribery
State Rep. Derrick Smith still has to face a jury for allegedly accepting a bribe — but his colleagues have already decided about his immediate political future.
On Friday, the Illinois House voted 100-6 to expel the West Side Democrat, the first time a House member has been thrown out of office in more than a century.

This is only half of the story. Smith is still on the ballot in November -- a result of Democratic leadership stumping for him, even though he was already under indictment -- and thus could get re-elected to the Illinois House this fall.
