One Oconee County Jail deputy was fired and another resigned following an internal investigation that the pair had “inappropriate communications” with a female inmate, Oconee County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Lee Weems said Monday.

The deputies, Dewayne Powers and Andrea Rogers — both men were hired in 2010 — sent Facebook friend requests to the 23-year-old inmate while she was incarcerated in the jail, Weems said. Powers also sent a text message to the inmate’s phone, he said. Additionally, both deputies engaged in face-to-face conversations of a sexual nature with the inmate, according to Weems.
