In
an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network last March,
Newt Gingrich reflected on his sins, which include cheating on his
first two wives with women he would later marry. "At times of my
life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this
country," he said, "I worked far too hard and things happened in my
life that were not appropriate." Senior Editor Jacob Sullum says
Gingrich's depiction of his infidelity as a testament to his
patriotism was one of the year's most memorable exercises in
responsibility deflection. Sullum highlights half a dozen
others.
