British Airways has apologized for a picture in a company magazine that showed a boarding pass in the name of Osama bin Laden.

The company said Thursday that the image of the fake boarding pass appeared in LHR News, a biweekly publication for British Airways employees at London Heathrow airport.

"A mistake was made and we are working to find out how this occurred. Apologies for the error," British Airways said in Twitter messages replying to Tweeters who raised the issue.

This makes no sense to me, and I've worked in the magazine business. What does Newsweek have that WorldNetDaily can't create from scratch, for less money? How much value is there in a fading and tainted brand name attached to an obsolete business model?

Hmm... the "max" of something could also be said to be its "peak". And "peak" rhymes with "week". Why not choose a name suggestive of both companies by calling the combined entity "NewsPeak"?

Of course, whenever they print something people don't like, they'd be called NewSpeak and compared to Big Brother from 1984, but I'm sure a little name-calling won't bother them.

As an opinion piece, it's not to bad; the money quote:

Of course, they fail to mention that England had a pretty lax restrictions during the Victorian era and that the modern prohibitions were initiated by fears of a Bolshevik uprising in the early 20th century.

"Safety" only became an issue in the last 20 years as a disarmed population found itself victim to massacres by armed men who could fire among them with impunity.
