Talk about corporate culture clash. I would pay to be a fly on the wall at the first employee meeting after that merger.

Probably the most fitting, considering the amount of blood involved.

A Møøse, JW. And if VM was around prior to his marriage, I think we all know the answer to that.

I can hardly wait for the Washington Times takeover of Scientific American

This makes no sense to me, and I've worked in the magazine business. What does Newsweek have that WorldNetDaily can't create from scratch, for less money? How much value is there in a fading and tainted brand name attached to an obsolete business model?

Well, you can sell anything if the price is right.

Any periodical's subscriber list has some value for similar publications, but you can always just rent that.

Hmm... the "max" of something could also be said to be its "peak". And "peak" rhymes with "week". Why not choose a name suggestive of both companies by calling the combined entity "NewsPeak"?
Coincidence?|6.4.10 @ 12:24AM|#
Hey, I was just thinking the same thing!
Of course, whenever they print something people don't like, they'd be called NewSpeak and compared to Big Brother from 1984, but I'm sure a little name-calling won't bother them.

So, just a heads up, after shootings in Cumbria, Britain may restrict gun rights more.

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, even when they get all British, I still do love the Economist (not referring to this story particularly, just the magazine in general).

As an opinion piece, it's not to bad; the money quote:
Of course, they fail to mention that England had a pretty lax restrictions during the Victorian era and that the modern prohibitions were initiated by fears of a Bolshevik uprising in the early 20th century.
"Safety" only became an issue in the last 20 years as a disarmed population found itself victim to massacres by armed men who could fire among them with impunity.

Yes, but...
What is it with authoritarians and ferrets?
peachy|6.4.10 @ 9:45AM|#
Hey, every ferret on the Court signed his daddy's death warrant (weasels are rabid Parliamentarians, you know.) So I can understand wanting to restrict ownership to the upper classes.

Maybe some brilliant entrepreneur could combine the Weekly World News and Newsweek. Then we could have Joe Klein editorializing on space aliens visiting the Prez, or Elvis sightings on Mars.
