Watch Reason Editor in Chief Matt Welch tonight talking about Sen. Chuck Schumer's crusade against airlines charging for carry-on bags, on a John Stossel Fox Business show dedicated to exposing "Government Bullies," at 8 p.m. eastern and repeated again at midnight. Matt, if you are reading this, try and include the DEA on your government bully list if at all possible.

Stossel is taped? All those times I "live" blogged, I must have looked like a FOOL!

I think Stossel does a great job at communicating... but am I the only one who feels like he's preaching to the choir? Like, is he changing any minds, or just telling libertarians what they already knew?
|5.6.10 @ 8:51PM|#
He's doing both, IMO.

What else can you do but keep talking and hopefully exposing people to libertarian ideas. Fox has an extensive viewing audience so hopefully having people like Stossel, Matt, Nick, Dr Boudreaux, Tom Palmer and company will at least introduce folks to, what to many will be, a whole new way of thinking about the world. Hell, it might even get some of them to pick up book or visit a website/blog. It could happen! :)

I'm about 3/4ths of the way through converting my previously liberal roommate into a libertarian.
Stossel's definitely helped out a lot.
Pope Jimbo|5.6.10 @ 11:02PM|#
Crap. How long until liberal and conservatives start warning people about the menace of libertarian recruitment of children?
Juice|5.7.10 @ 1:31AM|#
I find Stossel's show pretty weak. He comes of as a beltway glibertarian even though he may not be. Any mainstream "liberal" will see him as just another conservative republican hiding behind the libertarian label.
Matt Welch|5.7.10 @ 7:18AM|#
He lives in New York.
The original etymology for "glibertarian," for what it's worth, had a lot to do with support for the Iraq War, which doesn't (to my knowledge) describe Stossel at all.

Just saw the Stossel episode. I voted for Obama but this is great stuff. Democrats, back off a little bit!

Off topic but important:
We can now safely ignore any assurances by our rules that the new scanners will not reveal "sensative areas". Ladies: If it can reveal the size of a man's johnson it can also reaveal the shape of your sensitive areas:

make that "any assurances by our rulers".
Pope Jimbo|5.6.10 @ 11:05PM|#
I was just wondering where I should threadjack something about these scanners, then I see you have already covered it.
I'm worried though because you seem to think that this is a bad deal.
I'll gladly walk through thousands of scanners (only because I know that once I pass the machine, all female agents will follow me around the terminal like the Pied Piper), if it results in TSA agents beating each other.
Bonus points for reinforcing the stereotype of small dicked guys going into professions where they are given authority as a way to compensate for their lacking ...

Libertarians: fighting for the TEH FREEDOM of all to pay high fees for carry on luggage, be pressured to work without pay, and to have less say in their workplace!
No wonder you guys dream of cracking 5%...

These fucking losertarian twits are a business-worshiping cult. Confirmation in the cult involves sucking Ron Paul's tiny little pecker.

I'm really glad you guys comment here. I've now decided to switch from Libertarian to what ever it is that you believe.

We believe that you're a halfwit asshole.

You really are terrible at this.

Max, I understand that you're obsessed with Ron Paul's member, but your constant posts on the topic are slightly off-putting.

Oh wow that is very interesting indeed Wow.

No, we're fighting for the freedom not to have some prices artificially lowered (resulting in shortages), to be able to get entry-level work so that we can get a start in higher-skilled occupations, and to not be shut out of unionized industries because unions have artificially increased wages and thus limited the quantity demanded of labor.
But good for you for building strawmen, and buying into the free lunch fallacy.
