1968 Was a Very Good Year. Make 2008 an Even Better One by Supporting Reason Now!

Some good things that happened in 1968: LBJ announced he wouldn't run for reelection; Hair opened up on Broadway, sounding the death knell for hippies; Bob Beaman won the long jump at the Mexico City Olympics in a phenomenal record-setting performance; The Beatles released what became known as The White Album.

Some notable births in 1968: Lucy Lawless, Tony Hawk, Traci Lords, Vanilla Ice, and reason magazine.

Since that first issue of reason appeared 40 years ago, one of our hallmarks—whether in print, online, or video—has been to offer a true libertarian alternative that challenges and transcends the conventional, played-out politics of right vs. left, liberal vs. conservative, Kang vs. Kodos.

I'm already spending money I don't have on b - on essential needs, and I'm not going to spend even more on Reason (at least at this time), but I will offer the benefit of my advice. Why not charge extra for access to certain parts of your Web site, or for early access to content?

If you object to that, have an outfit called "Friends of Reason," sell memberships, and give members special discounts, coupons, free whiskey courtesy of the Distilled Spirits Council, etc? Maybe you already have something like this, and now is a good time to plug it.

I wanted to point out how ridiculous the AIG bailout was. AIG posted a
dividend on 9/3/2008 and got money from the federal reserve 2 or 3
days later. We should all be so lucky as to suck Warren Buffet's dick.

That's funny, most people remember 1968 as a year of extreme social turbulence, a brutal war fought by enslaved men for no clear purpose, and increasing political violence.

I love reason, but trying to paint 1968 as a great year is kind of silly. Even the hippies started to crash and burn in 1968.

On the plus side- some men circled the moon. That was cool.

I subscribed to Reason many years ago, and I might have contributed today if not for Reason's concerted effort to scuttle the Ron Paul campaign.

Reason got way too cozy with the Ruling Party, and it's led to asinine articles like "The Libertarian case for McCain" and "The Libertarian case for Obama". Give me a fucking break.
