At this point I have to believe that it's intentional that Reason continues to pick completely unfunny political cartoons. I know they have a sense of humor, so are they just doing it for fun?

The weirdest part of the whole Edwards thing has been running
sort of quiet, in my opinion.
Jay McInerney dated Druck/Hunter in the 80s and wrote a novel with
her as the main character, Story of My Life. The
character also appeared in two Bret Easton Ellis novels.
I'm rereading it now. McInerney made her out to be a pretty vapid
coke-whore.

Friday Funnies
I see the "Friday" part...
Perhaps if a little more thought had been put in, a behavioral link
between Edwards and an infant could have been found and the whole
thing might have conveyed, say, an actual insight.
I just thought of about five things that would make this cartoon
significantly less unfunny; unfortunately all five of them still
are deeply unfunny, so I won't pass them along.

Maybe the funniest thing is that he gave Edwards a mullet. But I think that's just part of the "poorly drawn" bit. I wouldn't have known it was Edwards without the label. Even with it I don't recognize Edwards in the drawing...

Its not all bad, look on the bright side(you certainly have not
looked at the far side). After you are let go by Reason, you can
still collect unemployment benefits as being dismissed for
incompetence does not make one ineligible for the same.

A person loses no points lying about something people have no
business asking in the first place.
It should not be *necessary* to have a massive cover-up of a
marital infidelity which has already resolved itself inside the
marriage, but that's the sort of fucked-up voyeuristic puritanical
culture we have. I cannot fault people (politicians or otherwise)
for protecting whatever shreds of dignity and privacy they may have
left by dicking with the info stream.
And as far as double standards, McCain has gotten pretty much a
free pass on his dalliances. Edwards did too. Clinton *did not* get
a free pass.
So what the hell are you talking about?

I'd say it depends entirely on how pro-family a politician claims
to be. Edwards did claim that moral purity to win votes, which puts
his family man credentials under the microscope. If McCain starts
talking up the traditional American family, he deserves whatever
happens.
Full disclosure: I roomed with two Edwards campaigners two summers
ago in Chapel Hill. It's really, really endearing how upset they
are.

the National Enquirer published, and he's a nobody?
If he's a nobody, its because he had an affair, go caught, lied
about it, and orchestrated a coverup of it.

Some guy running a business, I don't care. Some guy grasping (for)
the levers of power, its my business. Not that he has an affair,
necessarily (although that tells me things about his character that
I think are highly inapt for someone in public office) but that he
will lie to the public about anything. Anything at all.

the double standard was in effect then, too.

We're talking about tendencies here - the MSM tends to be more
reluctant to pursue and publish scandals that hurt Dems. Its not to
say they won't report on Dem scandals, its just human nature. They
give to Dems, they vote for Dems, they don't want to report bad
news about Dems, but will when it can no longer be ignored.

CNN and AP? All the veep stuff is speculation anyway, but he
had his name bandied about. Not that he would be a likely
choice.
I'd hesitate to say he became a political non-entity as soon as he
aborted his presidential bid. Certainly, Edwards became much less
relevant, but I doubt that would have stopped him from campaigning
for and probably attaining senior public office.

joe, you still don't get it. The reason he's a washed-up has-been
(for now) is because he got busted:
(a) screwing a woman not his wife, after campaigning on his
fabulous home life and devotion to his sick wife;
(b) a woman who he put on the campaign payroll, by the way, and
paid over $100,000 to;
(c) lying about all that, and (in all probability) about fathering
her child;
(d) inducing others to lie about it;
Before the Enquirer story broke, he was heavily courted as a
superdelegate endorser back in the primaries. He was being heavily
promoted by the trial lawyers (and I'm sure others) as the next AG.
He was very much not a nobody in Dem circles.
And, I must say, whether someone would engage in (a) through (d)
above is very relevant to me in evaluating whether they can be
trusted in positions of power.
C'mon, joe. Edwards is a scumbag, who got caught scumbagging. Your
sticking up for (D) scumbags is why you have a reputation as a
partisan around here.
