WTF
The new ads popping up the mouse over are pissing me off. I
subscribe to the print addition in the hopes of not having to put
up with crap like this.
Yes, Adbrite sucks, but it doesn't seem to be a problem for me since I'm on a Mac. I did see them this morning though when I was on a PC.
The adbrite inline ads were unintentional. They lasted about 6 hours overnight and are gone.
Most people probably don't know that the Iraq Men's National
Team won the Asian Cup last week.
The team captain cautioned the Iraqis not to celebrate too openly
as earlier spontaneous celebrations turned out to be tempting
targets for terrorists.
The captain of the team took the opportunity of the win to say that
the Americans should leave the country.
Of course, there is no reason why anyone should listen to a jock
over someone else, but it put the whole "hearts and minds" thing
into perspective.
mk, Interesting you should mention the edict on celebrating too
openely. Reports back here in the UK pointed out several people
were killed by falling bullets due to said celebrations taking the
form of machineguns fired into the air.
There's an irony in there somewhere, I just know it.

Thank you, thank you :^*

You're seeing pop-ups in the print edition? The magazine must have
some sort of new technology in it.
Regarding the actual topic and not Warren's psychotic
episode:
You can take the savage out of the jungle...
Mythbusters gets it wrong regularly yet in an entertaining
way.
True that. Still, I'm convinced that a tumbling bullet has a
sub-lethal terminal velocity.

According to the Daily Show, seven people died in the celebration,
and that is in itself cause for celebration since it's rare that
any event takes place in Iraq where only seven people die.
mk, most people did know. It was all over the news. Hell, their first win was MSM news.
People complaining about obtrusive ads: Firefox, Adblock,
Noscript.
People still use IE??? WTF????
Oh yeah, we get Mythbusters as well. Didn't they conclude that a
bullet simply falling vertically at terminal velocity won't kill
you, but bullets fired at an angle would come down in a parabolic
curve with lethal horizontal speed?
I recall them wheeling out a doctor who had dealt with a fatality
where this had occurred. Well, he wore a white coat, anyway.
I would like soccer, if it didn't put me to
sleep.
You should instead watch gridiron football, where the play never
stops, and there's constant action with no breaks for players to
stand around talking about what might be about to happen, and no
barrage of commercial breaks to boot. It's breathless, nonstop
excitement!

Nice.

At least with real football the scores aren't "1-0" or "1-1" with
what seems like an eternity between scores.

Look, I love basketball, and I can tolerate baseball, but American
sports fans seem to be like mice pushing a lever to watch a little
pellet fall out. Here's a "score"! And another "score"! And
another! Feed me, feed me, feed me...
In soccer, it isn't all about the "scoring." Soccer fans love goals
-- duh, of course. But one doesn't watch soccer to hit the lever
and get another pellet. Goals are a big, big deal BECAUSE there's
not an onslaught of them. Watching a game is about watching the
game; there's so much more to it than being fed continual
goals.
It's a whole different mindset than watching, say, an NBA game. And
it's kind of hard to describe. Watch enough soccer, and it just
sort of finally clicks. And once you get it, you're in -- and you
realize just why so many billions of people are so engrossed with
the sport.
Cesar - are you an arena football fan?
or - do you not like pitchers' duels?
Cesar,
Do you not like Hockey either?
Cesar,
Do you not like Hockey either?
I'm not a big fan, but at least hockey has violence to make up for
the time in between goals.
Tom-
I guess it hasn't clicked with me yet, then. I like big scoring
games.
