Senate Republicans in Rhode Island Back Legalized Gay Marriage

The five Republicans in the Rhode Island Senate are backing gay marriage as a legislative committee prepares for a pivotal vote on the issue.

The entire Senate could take up the bill by week's end if the Senate Judiciary Committee votes in favor of the measure. The House passed the bill in January.

    Considering that it's Rhode Island, supporting gay marriage would probably garner a few moderate votes, and certainly wouldn't hurt them much in the primaries. Conservatives don't have many other candidates to run to.
