U.K. Independence Party Polls Ahead of Liberal Democrats

Which is awkward for the junior coalition partner

The Liberal Democrats have slumped to a historic low poll rating of eight percent, amid mounting pressure on the party leadership over a sexual harassment scandal.

Figures compiled by ComRes for The Independent showed the Coalition partners in fourth place behind the UK Independence Party.

The monthly poll was taken at the weekend, amid headlines dominated by the Lib Dems' former chief executive Lord Rennard, suggesting the controversy has damaged the party's standing among voters.

Lord Rennard is alleged to have sexually harassed female party activists. Nick Clegg is under pressure over his handling of the claims, which the peer denies.
