Eric Cantor Wants a Softer Tone for GOP

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday outlined an agenda for Republicans that aims to strike a more personal approach to government policy.

In what was billed as a major address, Cantor's message stresses that House Republicans can "eliminate the doubt gripping our nation's families" with a focus that includes proposals on education, health care, innovation and job growth.

But those priorities are meant to complement what has been the House GOP's traditional emphasis on cutting federal spending and lowering taxes, the Virginia lawmaker said at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.
