French police say they have discovered weapons and bomb-making equipment while hunting suspected Islamic terrorists.

The material was found overnight during searches of lockup garages near Paris after a dozen suspects were arrested across the country on Saturday.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said a shotgun, a revolver, bags of potassium nitrate, sulphur and a pressure cooker were among the items discovered at the premises. "These are all products useful in making improvised explosive devices," he added.
