I lived in the UK for nearly 4 years.
Trust me, they don't get it.
At all.

They're still wondering why we split off from them. Why wouldn't we be more like Canada, who said "please sir, may we govern ourselves". To which Great Britain said, "Sure, but you have to keep the Queen."

Also, they are convinced the US is some wild barbarian hellhole (except for NY and San Fran), full of stupid fat people, and that their shit don't stink.
Actually, that's most of Western Europe.
