I've got your picture that you gave to me
And it's signed "with love," just like it used to be
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got your picture, she's got you

You really can't write a country lyric better than that.

You must admit, it's a low bar.

|7.16.10 @ 4:56PM|

It only seems like a low bar if you are an ignorant Philistine.

Some jackoffs are so ignorant about good (old style) country music. It was probaably the last bastion of soft-spoken, naturally poetic people left in the country, and now it's pretty much gone.

Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard were the top country songwriters for a long while. Patsy Cline's version of their song "I Fall To Pieces" is the best known version, but I am fond of Michael Nesmith's version.

Click on my name, I dares ya.

Harlan Howard was a monster songwriter. I think at one point (Buck Owens era) there something like 6 out of 10 songs on the top ten that were recordings of his work.

Amen to that, Douglas. I've linked my name to another Hank Cochran-Harlan Howard classic, Beyond The Blue Horizon. Excellent versions by Johnny Ray, Johnny Mathis, and Lou Christie can be found, but, you guessed it, I again went for Michael Nesmith's rendition.

No mention of Sugar Minott?

Sorry, forgot to say condolences to Mr Cochran's loved ones.
