reason.tv recently sat down Alan Pell Crawford, author of the new book Twilight at Monticello: The Final Years of Thomas Jefferson, which details in meticulous and lively detail the late life of America's third president.
In this 20-minute interview, Crawford, a one-time press secretary to Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and widely published journalist, discusses Jefferson's massive contributions to American political discourse; his role in creating the University of Virginia; his relationship to Sally Hemings, slavery, and manumission; and much, much more.

Damn. He even looks like Jefferson.
|2.27.08 @ 3:42PM|#
Wow, that was good. I might have to get his book.
|2.27.08 @ 3:47PM|#
He also kinda looks like Geddy Lee circa 2018. From the still, anyway.

reason sucks
|2.27.08 @ 4:15PM|#
You're wrong, Petunia. Only their male writers do.

From what he describes, Twilight at Monticello sounds like it would be an awesome movie. It'd be like "The Money Pit" meets the "1776" musical.

Only, you know, without the sex-crazed wife, the perverted Ben Franklin, and Knight Rider as John Adams.

The man was so ahead of his time

Jefferson talked in bad Elizabethan English? He was quite a bit behind his time then.
Kevin|2.27.08 @ 5:54PM|#
You don't know that for sure, Warty. Bad Elizabethan English could be future slang! 'Thou' and 'thine' are making a comeback, I tell you. Methinks.

"Duckets" has already came back.

Are you sure this guy isn't Siegfried, looking for a post-Roy career?

Seriously though, do we HAVE to visit this blog if we want to comment on the videos? I don't dislike your blog, I just don't often read it. But I've got your videos on RSS, because I find them extremely interesting.
I'll probably keep watching the videos because I'm a huge fan of Drew Carey, but I won't come back here to comment, and without comments on the video site, I won't need to revisit old videos.
Just a head's up for your accounting dept.
