...a bunch of magazines, including reason.
We just got word today that we're up for an award in the political coverage category. We're squaring off against The American Prospect, The Chronicle of Higher Education, City Journal, Dissent, Governing, The Nation, and The New Republic.
For a complete list of all nominees, check out the Utne site (the nominees page is misdated for some reason) or the current issue on newsstands. The winners will be announced in January/February 2008 issue.
Congrats to all the nominees, but especially to my staff.

Edward,
Based on your opinions, I would assume it's actually everyone
else's money.
Kick some ass Reason!
Taktix,
Thanks, but carefully considered and intelligent as my opinions
are, everyone isn't paying me money for them. But not to worry, I
have money to burn.
Well, I guess Z Mag and International Socialist Review must have had an off year.
Katherine Mangu-Ward chats with Fark editor Drew Curtis about Web 2.0, Matt Drudge, the stupidity of crowds and how on the internet "everything devolves into racism and dick jokes."
"My money's on The New Republic."
Mine too. Oh, wait the category is not "Most gullible editors
likely to believe obviously made-up bullshit because it fits their
political narrative" or "Most likely to repeatedly hire plagiarists
and liars". The New Republic would win both of those awards
easily.
It appears they have nomitated a very diverse bunch of political journals. Every shade of the left is represented.
"That's pretty good company. Congrats"
Indeed. We have a group whose members include one with a
demonstrated penchant for hiring liars and one whose publisher and
former senior editor spent the better part of 30 years defending
the Khmer Rouge. An incredibly high quality group if I do say so
myself.
It appears they have nomitated a very diverse bunch of
political journals. Every shade of the left is
represented.
That was cruel....
...but true.
It appears they have nomitated a very diverse bunch of

represented.
Considering it's an Utne award, I'm surprised Reason was even
looked at.
All the same, congrats Nick, et.al.
TNR? I guess having a history of liars writing for you doesn't prevent you from getting blown by your fellow lefties.

Ever read City Journal?
Considering it's an Utne award, I'm surprised Reason was
even looked at.
Now be fair. They're willing to look at publications of any
political stripe that don't like Bush.
Reason wins awards because left-wingers and right-wingers feel
they have to appear balanced, so they nominate reason, because it
at least agrees with both of them on some issues and makes them
appear not totally close-minded.
* Just kidding, reason wins because it's good. That's why I have
the subscription.
Congrats to all the nominees, but especially to my
staff.
Did someone mention dick jokes?
Ever read City Journal?
Their website looked interesting, and closer to MOR / right
centrist than liberal. But they lost major points for having
Giuliani endorse them.
As no doubt all of you know, the Utne is quite familiar to us folks here in Minneapolis. After bleaching off all of the print, we wipe our asses with it.
