The Washington Post reports that items accepted as bribes by ex-congressman (and current con) Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-Calif.) go up for auction today. Among the swag:
[A] 1920s lingerie cabinet with the scratched drawers, the 19th-century Louis-Phillipe commode with the cracked (but professionally restored) black marble top, the red-and-blue wool Oriental rug . . . with a stain in the center.

I saw this on CNN. The good stuff is mostly beaten up and the majority of the stuff is blindingly tacky. What is it about taking bribes or stealing or such that completely destroys the perps taste? If you're going to be a thief, at least spend the loot on something that won't make people laugh at you when it's auctioned off.
Did anyone else have a Doonesbury moment when they read that headline? Or rather, a Johnny Depp moment, because I can't think of the Doonesbury character Duke without seeing Depp's Hunter S. Thompson ask a baffled Vegas valet, "Is this not a reasonable place to park?"
