Now gary_the_gimp_horn Knows the Rest of the Story

New at Reason: Does the Ghost in a Jar sale represent a whole new medium? Is it a new form of storytelling? Why is teajay101 only selling "to the best of my recollection what was contained in the old journal" rather than the ghost journal itself? Whatever the answers may be, teajay has gotten a better pay rate for his spooky story than he would have made from Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, or even Playboy. Jesse Walker reports on the emergence of a new form of literature.

auctions like this always end up with some hugely high bid - and its always a fake bid. as a quick check would reveal, "gary_the_gimp_horn" has already had his account deleted. did you guys seriously think someone could make 50 grand selling a jar?

Jesse Walker|6.6.03 @ 5:05AM|

They had just eliminated a much bigger bid -- a million dollars or somesuch -- and then closed the auction after this one came through, so I thought this closing bid might be legit. Thanks for the update.

Gives new meaning to the term "ghost writer."

I like the part where teajay throws a hissy fit over not being taken seriously.

What ghost around… will come back to haunt you

Excellent news! Do you guys think I can sell the story of dead man Adam Smith's Invisible Hand? It just keeps pushing me around. I'll guarantee that the winning bidder will also get pushed around by the Hand.

Hank|6.6.03 @ 6:24AM|

I think his hand should slap you around...

...someone just slapped me...

This comment has nothing to do with this post. I just thought it was funny that Reason managed to equate farse with individualism. They just can't help themselves.

I'm going to sell a jar of milk from a Sacred Chao.

I love the symbols! And the double-exposed B&W prints of the cemetary. Clearly there is a dark genius at work.

teajay101 is back! Now with a Dutch auction for ten thousand of his business cards, personally autographed for only five bucks each! Along with a wonderfully deranged auction description:

It's not literature - it's a carny pitch.

The way to love anything is to realize it might be lost.
