Women Bloggers?

A piece in Friday's NYT says there aren't enough women bloggers. It features former Reason editor and blog pioneer Virginia Postrel and also mentions the Weblog of Reason Foundation's economic policy guru Lynne Kiesling .

I'm glad we're able to help the Gray Lady prove her point. By the way, Reason Assistant Editor Sara Rimensnyder and Reason Foundation education policy expert Lisa Snell also run blogs.

Glenn Reynolds has more on the shortage of women bloggers.

An apropos--or at least vaguely related, interesting, perhaps alarming--anecdote: A guy I know is writing a book on low-budget filmmaking. He asked a similar number of men and women artists to be interviewed for his book. The men all accepted; meanwhile, almost all the women declined. I'm chalking it up to an ego thing, not unlike the phenomenon of women second-guessing themselves on multiple choice tests.

Leave it to the Times to screw up yet another Net story. I count it 0-for-897 now.

A regular stop is Pop Culture Junk Mail (http://www.popculturejunkmail.com) for the kind of stuff you might expect.

Techie women are out there too at http://www.stormwerks.com/linked/, http://www.girlhacker.com/log.html, and http://www.anitarowland.com/ to name a handful.

Then there is the introspective Caveat Lector
(http://yarinareth.net/caveatlector/) which kinda fills the void left by Lemon Yellow, one of the first and best blogs that now appears to have gone dark.

All predate, as near as I can tell, by several years, the pompous, NYT-sanctioned "blog sisters." Yeech.
