A handful of digital health start-ups, and avant-garde surgeons are looking for ways to apply Goggle Glass to health care, but in a move that could significantly raise the profile of this nascent technology, Royal Philips PHG is stepping in. After testing Google Glass in its labs, the Dutch giant plans to gauge customer interest in developing the Google Glass platform in the operating room.
Philips, which reported $34 billion in revenue last year, has half of the patient monitor market worldwide. The machine records a patient’s vital signs during surgery.
“Does it (patient monitoring with Google Glass) work? Yes,” says Anthony Jones, chief marketing officer of Patient Care and Clinical Informatics at Philips Healthcare.
