A recent outbreak of the highly contagious measles virus has local and state health officials pushing Texans to make sure their vaccinations are up to date and keep an eye out for symptoms of the disease.

As of Friday, 11 cases of the virus were confirmed in the state this year, including one in Harris County in May. There were none in the state last year.

Beaumont Public Health Department director Sherry Ulmer said even though there hasn't been a local case since at least 2004, area hospitals and schools have been warned to keep a wary eye out for the virus.
