Over privacy breaches

The operator of the popular Path social-networking app has agreed to settle a federal privacy complaint by paying $800,000 and adopting new policies for safeguarding user information, authorities announced Friday.

Path, a popular mobile app that lets users keep journals about moments in their life, agreed to the settlement with the Federal Trade Commission after regulators brought charges over complaints that the app had collected users' personal information from their mobile device address books, without users' consent.
