NJ Wants To Know About Surveillance Operations

In response to NYPD spying on Muslims in New Jersey, a state legislative committee has advanced a bill requiring out-of-state law enforcement to notify New Jersey officials if they plan on conducting surveillance in the state.
Assemblyman Charles Mainor said his bill was prompted by revelations that the New York Police Department had operated secretly in New Jersey neighborhoods where Muslims lived and worked, spied on Muslim organizations, infiltrated Muslim student groups and videotaped mosque-goers. The activities, revealed in a series of articles by The Associated Press, angered many Muslims and New Jersey officials and resulted in a federal lawsuit against the NYPD.
