Reason Writers Around Town: Shikha Dalmia on Immigrant-Led Revival of Dying Cities in Bloomberg

Cities caught in a spiral of decline such as Detroit, Cleveland and Baltimore have hit upon a rescue plan: More immigrants. But Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia points out in Bloomberg column this morning that, without fundamental reform, this plan is unlikely to work. She examines instances of immigrant-based revival of cities and concludes that:

[I]mmigrants aren't miracle workers who can fix any broken economy. Their absence often signals that cities have taken a wrong turn. Rolling out the welcome mat won't get a place back on track without fundamental reform.
