Police went to the home of the suspected Los Angeles International Airport gunman on the day of the rampage but missed him by minutes, officials have said.

The officers visited Paul Ciancia's home and spoke to his roommates after being alerted by the suspect's worried relatives.

"His roommates had seen him and said he was in good shape and there was no additional follow-up," said Andy Neiman, an LAPD spokesman.
