David Cameron Under Pressure To Allow Vote on Arming Syrian Rebels
Early Day Motion supported by all three major parties in Parliament
Syria has become a key talking point in the Commons this week. And pretty quickly, it has become clear that David Cameron's apparent support for arming the rebels to defeat President Assad.
Mr Cameron refused to give a clear answer about the conditions under which he would arm the rebels, and what safeguards would be in place to ensure arms do not get into the wrong hands. The people pressuring him to give answers on Monday were not the usual suspects – and many were Tories concerned that Britain could end up causing more problems in Syria.
Now, a Tory MP has tabled a Commons Motion, signed by MPs from all three main parties, calling on Cameron to hold a vote on arming the rebels – and if necessary, recalling Parliament to do so. It will be interesting to see who signs up. It feels like the Prime Minister is suddenly becoming slightly isolated over the issue.
