By next spring, 91 new surveillance cameras will be rolling as you stroll or drive down the Central West End's streets, sidewalks and alleys.

The Washington University Medical Center and the property tax-backed Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative (NSI) are pooling about $750,000 to buy and install a network of 91 new high-definition color security cameras on residential and commercial buildings throughout the Central West End.

Brooks Goedeker, a community development specialist for the medical center, said Wednesday that 16 cameras have already been installed.
