Midnight will  mark the end of Washington's decades-long prohibition on marijuana possession, as the initial steps of Initiative 502 that decriminalized marijuana possession went into effect.

Voters approved marijuana decriminalization by a 12-point margin on Nov. 6. But, despite the efforts of the serious-minded supporters who crafted the law, what happens next remains something of a mystery.

One ex-Microsoftie is already aspiring to be the state's first entirely legal pot kingpin. A new driving under the influence rule will be ripe for an in-court test. For at least a year, Washingtonians won't be able to legally grow or sell the pot they can now legally buy.
