Symposium on "Consumer Credit and the American Economy" on November 14
On November 14, the George Mason Law and Economics Center and the GMU Journal of Law, Economics, and Policy will be hosting an academic and public policy conference on "Consumer Credit and the American Economy." CLE credit is available as well. The conference is free (unless you want CLE credit) but you should register in advance so we make sure we have enough food and such for attendees. We will have six academic papers addressing various aspects of the book, by three law professors (Marcus Cole, Jim Hawkins, and Richard Hynes) and three economists (Howard Beales, Tom Miller, and Tony Yezer). In addition, each panel will feature remarks on the book by one industry-affiliated person and one consumer activist-affiliated person. Tom Durkin and Greg Elliehausen will also present a paper on an empirical study of consumer installment lending and I will present opening remarks providing an overview of the book. The papers eventually will be published in a symposium issue of the Journal of Law, Economics, and Policy. Finally, I'd like to express my deepest appreciation to the Law and Economics Center, JLEP, and George Mason Law School for providing various degrees of financial and logistical support for the program.
