Mitch McConnell Only Congressional Leader Not to Take Stance on Syria

Walking a fine line ahead of next year's election

Facing competing pressures as he fends off a conservative challenger for re-election, Mitch McConnell is steering clear so far of the debate over whether to attack Syria as a use of force resolution makes its way through Congress.

The Senate GOP leader is the only congressional leader who hasn't yet taken a position as Congress advances legislation to authorize U.S. military force. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) all support President Barack Obama's call for action.
